DALLAS - Tyler Seguins week away from Dallas felt a little longer, probably because it included a pair of one-goal losses at Anaheim to start a first-round playoff series. Kevin Mchale Jersey . The Dallas Stars headed west last weekend celebrating their first post-season berth since 2008 before a meaningless regular-season finale in Phoenix. They came home subdued but resolute, ready to see how fans who used to think playoff hockey was as regular as Easter on their calendar will react to 2,162 days without it. Game 3 is Monday night. "Be interesting to see the atmosphere, especially with these fans not seeing playoff hockey in a while," said Seguin, the teams leading scorer in the regular season. "Pretty long trip. Feels like we havent been home in a while." Seguin has seen his share of the post-season, even though hes just 22. But about half the Dallas roster hasnt, including linemate Jamie Benn, who was second to Seguin in points during the regular season. The inexperience showed in the playoff opener, when the Stars fell behind 3-0 in the first period of a 4-3 loss. "Other than that I think once the guys got their feet wet everyone stepped up and did a pretty good job," said Seguin, who won the 2011 Stanley Cup with Boston and already has 44 career playoff games. "Theres going be Game 7s and a lot of things you cant really teach. Youve just got to be there. But we have a lot of experience in this locker room." All those playoff newcomers still dont know what a win feels like either. Anaheims Ryan Getzlaf led a 3-2 victory Friday, getting a goal and an assist playing with a mask after he took a slapshot to the jaw in the series opener. Corey Perry also had a goal for the Ducks, who are looking for their first playoff series win since 2009 a year after losing to Detroit in the first round as the No. 2 seed. Anaheim is the top seed in the West this season against the wild-card Stars. "If you look at it, both goals were unassisted," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "So it wasnt like they had to make great plays. We handed both those players those opportunities." And the Stars didnt take advantage of their own chances. They outshot the Ducks 36-19, but couldnt pull even after Ryan Garbutt got them within a goal in the third period. Dallas pulled goalie Kari Lehtonen on a power play for a 6-on-4 advantage in the last 3 minutes, creating plenty of havoc but never getting one past Anaheim rookie Frederik Andersen, who has outplayed Lehtonen by stopping 66 of 71 shots. "Weve got to find a way to get a little bit more traffic on him, make life tough for him," said Benn, who had a goal on five shots in his playoff debut but just one shot Friday. "Hes been making some pretty big saves and weve got to find a way to bury our chances." If the Stars are going to get back in the series, home ice is the likely place to do it. They were 23-11-7 during the regular season, including 8-1-1 in their last 10. The home finale was a dominating 3-0 win over St. Louis to clinch a playoff spot. "Its pretty hard to go on the road," Seguin said. "Its an opportunity here at home to do the same thing they did to us." ___ Follow Schuyler Dixon on Twitter at https://twitter.com/apschuyler John Havlicek Jersey .Commissioner Adam Silver said Wednesday it is inevitable that the league will one day take after European sports and have sponsor names on team jerseys. Danny Ainge Jersey . Pressley missed all of last season with Cincinnati because of a knee injury, but the 5-foot-10, 249-pounder had been expected to fill a need on Clevelands roster. http://www.authenticcelticsproshop.com/ . - Maxence Parrot of Bromont, Que.LEDUC, Alta. - These are heady times for Taylor Hall and the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers (4-4-1) have won four straight games against Eastern Conference teams. But now comes an all too familiar challenge for Edmonton: trying to match up against their Western rivals. Edmonton began the season 0-4-1 against Western teams before getting back on track against Eastern squads at Rexall Place. But the final two contests of the Oilers seven-game homestand will be against the Nashville Predators on Wednesday night and Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. We certainly get excited about playing Eastern Conference teams, Hall said after practice Tuesday. Its pretty obvious the Eastern style lends itself to the way our team is built a little bit more than the West. But in saying that, I think the way our team is built this year is more capable of playing Western teams. It might not have shown in the first five games but I think as the season goes on you will see that. Head coach Dallas Eakins feels a reason for Edmontons success against Eastern teams, simply put, is confidence. It seems like weve got a little extra mojo and a little extra swagger when were playing an Eastern team, he said. Against the Western teams I feel were a little more tense and we have to get over that. Listen, Montreal is as good as L.A., theyre as good as Anaheim ... we should be able to play with every team in this league now. Veteran defenceman Andrew Ference, who joined the Oilers two years ago after seven years in Boston, credits the four wins to the Oilers playing more responsibly in the defensive zone. Youve seen a lot better job of five guys working ttogether to prevent chances, he said. Bob Cousy Jersey. The other parts of our game were going all right. The more glaring thing for me was the breakdowns that we have definitely limited, if not eliminated, on many nights. Edmontons 3-0 win over Montreal on Monday improved its record to 4-1 on the homestand. This time last year, the Oilers were 3-9-1 and en route to finishing with a 29-44-9 mark. Last year, Edmonton was 14-14-4 against the Eastern Conference but just 15-30-5 versus Western rivals. Despite its early-season struggles, Hall said the Oilers seemed to adopt a new mindset following a 2-0 home loss to Vancouver on Oct. 17. It seems like we have a different mentality on the bench, the bench doesnt seem to get as down, he said. I dont know if its maturity or what it is, but we dont have that quiet on the bench when something bad happens. Meanwhile, Eakins confirmed centre Leon Draisaitl, Edmontons first-round pick in Junes NHL draft, will remain with the club. Wednesday nights contest will be Draisaitls 10th and activate the first year of his entry-level contract. You shouldnt be surprised, said Eakins. Hes part of our hockey team. Hes earned the right to be here in the lineup (Wednesday). He continues to improve. His perseverance and commitment right now is outstanding. Draisaitl, a native of Cologne, Germany, turned 19 on Monday. He took the good news in stride. Im just trying to get better every day, he said. Just get up in the morning and get better every day. You couldnt say I was confident I would stick around but I think for the most part of the nine games, I think I did a pretty good job. New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick ended a quarterback controversy before one could even begin as he said Tom Brady will be the teams starter when he returns from a suspension. Virgil Green Chargers Jersey . Belichick said the Patriots are focused on getting backup Jimmy Garoppolo ready for the teams September 11 season opener but that Brady, banned for four games as a result of the Deflategate scandal, will not lose his starting role.We have finally some definition with Toms situation, so our priority now then is to get Jimmy ready for the start of the season, for the Arizona game, so thatll be obviously a comprehensive process, Belichick said. SAN FRANCISCO - Jon Lester pitched into the ninth for his first victory in four tries this month, and the AL East-leading Boston Red Sox beat the San Francisco Giants 7-0 on Monday night after flying cross-country earlier in the day. Steve Francis Jersey . Stephen Drew and Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit RBI doubles, Shane Victorino added an RBI single and Will Middlebrooks had a sacrifice fly for Boston. The Red Sox chose to travel first thing Monday rather than late Sunday night after a 9-6 loss to the Yankees at Fenway Park. Lester (11-7) allowed six hits, struck out three and walked two in Bostons seventh shutout. He outpitched two-time NL Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum (6-13) to snap a three-start winless stretch since a victory at Baltimore on July 28. Lester gave way to Brandon Workman after allowing a pair of one-out singles in the ninth. Lincecum was done after five-plus innings and lost for the fourth time in his last five decisions. Two of his four walks were intentional free passes to Middlebrooks. Giants pitchers had a balk, wild pitch and hit batsman in the same home game for the first time since April 10, 2010, against Atlanta. The two clubs faced off for just their fourth series and first since Boston took two of three at AT&T Park in an injury-plagued stop. In a lengthy tribute to the Boston Marathon bombing victims before the game, players from both sides walked out of their dugouts and stood on their respective baselines in a show of solidarity and support. Lester retired the first nine Giants in order before Andres Torres lined a single to left leading off the fourth. The Boston left-hander tossed a complete game in his lone other start against San Francisco, a five-hitter on June 27, 2010, at AT&T Park. He nearly did it again. Boston staked Lester to an early lead with three runs in the second — showing no signs of being weary from a 4-hour, 12-minute game Sunday night and then the travel. Will Middlebrooks hit a sacrifice fly and a balk by Lincecum forced in another run. Torres also singled in the sixth and eighth innings to finish with three of San Franciscos six hits and his first multihit game since June 29 at Colorado. The Giants were blanked for the 10th time. Red Sox slugger David Ortiz went 0 for 5 with two strikeouts. Dustin Pedroia hit a ninth-inning triple and scored on Saltalamacchias two-out double. Boston manager John Farrell reiterated he didnt think Ryan Dempster hit Alex Rodriguez on purpose a night earlier — and Farrell doesnt foresee any punishment from Major League Baseball. "I dont expect them to do anything," he said. "My view is that it was not intentional." Notes: A moment of silence and a video slideshow of still photos were held before the national anthem. No pretty goals on this night, just get to the front of the net and fight for a chance.Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hey Kerry, Can you clarify something for me please? On every draw taken by Jonathan Toews, Ive noticed that as soon as the first stick touches the ice (his own on the road and the opponents at home) he simultaneously turns his body and moves his left foot forward, positioning it in front of his opponents right foot immediately before the puck is dropped. This allows him to basically block out the opposing player before the puck is even dropped. How is this not considered to be encroaching (or jumping early) on the faceoff? To me, hes basically being allowed an advantage by getting a head start so to speak on the draw. Keep it up Mr. Fraser! Kyle ShermanWestlake Village, CA Kyle: I did not take your claim lightly that Jonathan Toews cheats on every faceoff, so I examined consecutive faceoffs in an objective manner that the Hawks captain was involved in during the first period of Wednesday nights game. You might be surprised to learn (which I wasnt at all) that the centres from both teams were cheating every chance they could get and as much as the linesmen allowed! There was considerable stick movement regardless of which player placed his stick on the ice first (especially from Jarret Stoll who utilizes a quick stick tap up and down to be in motion when the linesman releases the puck). So put your stick down and your skates squared up on each side of the lines Kyle because this is what transpired: 1) Opening faceoff: Toews set up with open stance to the right before the referee Marc Joannette moved into position to drop the puck. Toews won the opening faceoff cleanly over Anze Kopitar and the Hawks puck possession and attack led to Drew Doughty being called for tripping Toews. 2) As a result of the Kings penalty, Toews took the draw to the right side of Jonathan Quick. From this location, the Hawks captain wanted to draw the puck back to his left. Both Toews and Stoll line up with their feet square on each side of the markings. Toews puts his stick on the ice first butt then picks it up as Stoll comes down with an effort to time the drop. PJ Tucker Jersey. The linesman puts the puck in and both centres tie up but Toews wins the puck back from the scrum. This puck possession results in a Hawk power play goal by Brent Seabrook. 3) Toews set up square for a Hawks attacking zone left side draw back. Stoll demonstrates a dramatic set to the right with his skates. Jonathan Toews wins the draw cleanly back for another Hawks attacking zone puck possession. 4) Toews lost a neutral zone faceoff as he set up square while Anze Kopitar was twisted to the right. Kopitar won the draw to the sidewall and created a Kings entry into the Hawks zone (First commercial timeout then resulted). 5) Centre ice faceoff following Jarret Stoll goal which saw both Jonathan Toews and Anze Kopitar dramatically twisted as they lined up. Both players moved to gain the benefit of a timed drop. Toews was faster and more dramatic but Kopitar won the draw back and Kings controlled. 6) With 7:10 remaining in the period and a Hawks end zone left side faceoff, Jarret Stoll places his stick on the ice first and does a stick tap up and down to gain momentum as Toews comes down and then up with his stick. Both players attempted to gain the benefit of this timed drop but Stoll was clearly twisted to his right with movement and won the draw back as the Kings controlled the puck in their attacking zone. The linesman fell to the ice and was likely fined a "six-pack." Play went end to end until Marian Gaborik scored on a terrific pass from Anze Kopitar. I think you get the picture by now Kyle. Jonathan Toews is not the only centre thats rotating his left skate in advance of the puck drop; there is cheating on both sides of the faceoff circle! What you have highlighted Kyle is the need for the linesmen to be more diligent in squaring the centres as they get set to drop the puck and not allow a player to swing or move his stick to gain the benefit of a "timed drop". Puck possession off an end zone can be a huge factor in the outcome of a game. Thank you for pointing this out! One of his most glaring weaknesses as a young guard in the league was his playmaking ability. As a 19-year-old rookie in 2009-10, DeRozan averaged less than one assist per game. Among NBA guards that logged at least 20 minutes per outing that season, DeRozan assisted on the lowest percentage of his teammates field goals (just under 5 per cent, tied with Orlandos Mickael Pietrus, per NBA.com/stats). Hes come a long way since then, making good on his yearly end-of-season promise. DeRozans four assists in Sundays win over the Magic raised his season total to 205, a new career-high, besting last years mark with 26 games left to play. "I want to make my teammates better," said the Raptors guard, who continues to evolve as a distributer, averaging a career-best 3.8 dimes this season. "It just comes with experience and understanding. Its something that I really enjoy doing, getting my teammates involved, looking for them." The 24-year-olds assist numbers have increased in each of his five seasons and his assist percentage this year (18.6) is more than three-times higher than it was in his rookie campaign (4.9). DeRozan had recorded five or more assists in just five of his first 2222 games as an NBA player, his first three years in the league. Zach LaVine Jersey. Since then hes accomplished that feat 28 times in 136 contests, including 15 during his 2013-14 breakout season. "Thats huge," Dwane Casey said of his leading scorers improved court vision. "Now hes drawing so much attention from the other teams as far as double teaming, guys helping, theyre sinking in and hes making teams pay for it." "Hes one of the best wings right now in the league as far as passing the ball out [of the double team] and hes doing a great job of it," Casey continued. "So thats a big step in his growth process. Its good to see and the more attention he gets the more hes going to have to rely on that part of his game." A first-time all-star this season, DeRozan has had to adjust to the defensive attention hes getting now that he finds himself on the top of the oppositions scouting report. Theres nowhere left to hide, not after the trade of top dog Rudy Gay, but DeRozan has embraced the responsibility. "The game definitely does slow down," he noted. "You understand every defence. Theres not too many defences I havent seen yet and just watching film and understanding how teams play key players, especially key scorers, once you understand that a lot of things come a lot easier." As a team, the Raptors are just 14-17 when DeRozan scores 20 or more points, however theyre 18-8 when he tallies at least four assists. • ANAHEIM, Calif. Rasheem Green Jersey . -- Felix Hernandez thinks the Mariners off-season reboot will produce impressive results this season, and Seattles ace was glad to help out in yet another win on opening day. Abraham Almonte hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the seventh inning and Hernandez struck out 11 in the new-look Mariners eighth consecutive victory on opening day, 10-3 over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. Hernandez (1-0) gave up four hits over six innings in his seventh opening day start for the Mariners. After he allowed a first-inning homer by Mike Trout, Hernandez settled into his usual brilliance -- and unlike many nights last season, his teammates provided enough runs to win. "Youve just got to make good pitches, and were going to be OK this season," said Hernandez, who passed Randy Johnson for the club record for opening day starts. "I can feel that. I made a couple of mistakes, but I felt really confident with these guys." Justin Smoak hit a three-run homer and Dustin Ackley had a three-run triple while the Mariners batted around in the ninth inning, roaring back from an early two-run deficit. Robinson Cano went 2 for 4 with a double and an intentional walk in the $240 million second basemans debut for new Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon, who hesitated to ascribe much significance to a close game that turned into a blowout win. "I thought our starter did a tremendous job and battled all night," said McClendon, who replaced Eric Wedge. "The bullpen did a fantastic job, and the offence did a great job grinding out at-bats." Trout hit a two-run homer and Albert Pujols had a run-scoring double for the Angels, who had won nine of 10 on opening day, including five straight. Their evening got off to an ominous start when hitting coach Don Baylor broke his right leg while catching Vladimir Guerreros ceremonial first pitch. "Obviously its a freak (injury)," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Well see how it turns out." The former Rockies and Cubs manager will have surgery on his femur Tuesday. Baylors leg bent awkwardly before he had to be helped to the dugout, leaving the Angels stunned as they took the field. "It got me sick when I was warming up and hearing what happened in the dugout," Trout said. Hernandez outdueled Jered Weaver (0-1), who yielded six hits and three walks in his club-record sixth start on opening day. Mike Zunino had an RBI triple in the seventh to chase Weaver, and Almonte drove him home with a double off Angels newcomer Fernando Salas. Smoak connected in the ninth off Kevin Jepsen while the Mariners batted around. After Cano grounded out to short in his first plate appearance, the longtime Yankees second baseman got his first Mariners hit on a 50-foot squib to third base in the fourth inning. He rapped a solid double to right in the ninth before Smoaks shot. The Mariners nearly tied it with a two-out rally in the sixth, but Calhoun swiftly fielded Kyle Seagers RBI double off the right field wall, and cutoff man Howie Kendrick threw out Logan Morrison at the plate. The eight-time All-Star got a second opinion Tuesday from Dr. James Andrews after having a second cortisone shot to ease pain from a bone spur. Girardi said the veteran will take some dry swings or hit off a tee Monday and again Tuesday, assuming theres no pain. From there, he would continue to work his way back. If he experiences pain, Girardi said the next step would likely be surgery that would keep him out eight to 10 weeks. "Does he feel that he can take his A swing?" the manager said. "You dont want him going out there if hes taking a B or C swing. Thats not going to help us." He said the Yankees have enough outfielders to "work around" any defensive shortcomings brought on by the injury. If the procedure doesnt work, Girardi isnt sure what the next step would be. "I think youre a long way from that," he said. "You gotta give him six weeks to try to rehab it, get it right. If not, its something well have to talk about with our doctors." Girardi said Sabathia will have to make some rehab starts before returning. • ARLINGTON, Texas -- Derek Norris drove in three runs with a pair of doubles, Scott Kazmir outpitched Martin Perez and the Oakland Athletics beat the Texas Rangers 9-3 on Tuesday night. Paris Saint-Germain Jerseys . The As went ahead to stay on Norris two-run double in the first off Perez (4-1), who had pitched 26 consecutive scoreless innings over his previous three starts. The left-hander had thrown three-hit shutouts his last two games, including at Oakland six days earlier. Kazmir (4-0) tied for the AL lead in wins. He needed 95 pitches to get through five innings, but left with a 9-3 lead. The lefty struck out four and walked one. When Norris added an RBI double to make it 4-0 in the third, the As already had six hits off Perez, who started the night with an AL-best 1.42 ERA. The eight runs allowed by Perez were two more than his combined total his first five starts, and his ERA more than doubled to 2.95. He struck out three and walked three in 4 2-3 innings. Oakland, swept in three games at home by the Rangers last week, has won the first two games in this series that started with the teams tied atop the AL West. At 17-10, the As have the best record in the American League. Texas (15-12) has its first three-game losing streak this season. As right-hander Sonny Gray, who lost in the matchup against Perez last week, reached four wins by throwing a three-hit shutout in the series opener. Gray beat Rangers ace Yu Darvish, who with 3 1-3 innings had the shortest start in three seasons since coming from Japan. Perez and Torontos Mark Buehrle were the only other AL pitchers who went into Tuesdays games with four wins. When Craig Gentry led off the second with a triple, the As already had three hits -- matching through seven batters what they got against Perez last week. Gentry scored on a groundout by Josh Reddick, who added a two-run single in Oaklands five-run outburst in the fifth. Perez was gone after issuing a bases-loaded walk to Alberto Callaspo in the fifth. Pinch-hitter Brandon Moss then drew a bases-loaded walk on an eight-pitch at-bat against reliever Jason Frasor before Reddicks single made it 9-1. Alex Rios had an RBI double for Texas in the fourth, but was thrown out trying to come home on a groundball. After the Rangers had consecutive singles to start the fifth, Elvis Andrus sent home a run on a groundout and Prince Fielder had an RBI single. • Four sources have told ESPNs Outside the Lines that now-former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice told NFL commissioner Roger Goodell when they met on June 16 that he punched his then-fiancée Janay Rice in an Atlantic City elevator. Alex Biega Jersey . The report conflicts with Goodells statement this week that when the league met with Rice and his representatives, "it was ambiguous about what actually happened." Goodell told CBS News in a one-on-one interview on Tuesday that the video released by TMZ - showing Rice striking his fiancée - was "inconsistent" with what the commissioner had previously been told. The sources - reportedly close to Rice - say Goodell was fully informed of the situation during the aforementioned hearing. "Ray didnt lie to the commissioner," a source with knowledge of the meeting told ESPN. "He told the full truth to Goodell. He made it clear he had hit her and he told Goodell he was sorry and that it wouldnt happen again." "He told the truth," another source added to ESPN. "This is a public lynching of Ray." The sources spoke on condition of anonymity, but are adamant that Goodells statement to CBS News is not accurate. "There was no ambiguity about what happened [in the elevator]," another source told ESPN. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, Rices lawyer Michael J. Diamondstein and a representative of the players union each declined to comment when contacted by ESPN about the story. TMZ released the in-elevator video of the incident on Monday and the Associated Press reported Wednesday that the footage was sent to an unnamed NFL executive by a law enforcement official last April. His New York Rangers felt every bit of both as they watched him writhing on the ice.Lundqvist was struck by a shot from Carolinas Brad Malone in the second period after teammate Ryan McDonaghs stick pushed up his goalie mask. Lundqvist shook that off, stopped 31 shots overall, and backstopped the Rangers slump-busting 4-1 win over the Hurricanes on Saturday night.I was getting ready for the shot, and I could feel a stick under my chin pull up my helmet, so I lost vision of the puck, Lundqvist said. I had a bad feeling about it because I could kind of see the puck coming, but then I lost track of it.When I got hit, it was obviously extremely painful and it was hard to breathe for a couple of minutes. That pain subsided, but Lundqvist still felt headaches and light-headedness that the medical staff attributed to a lack of oxygen after being struck. By the time the Rangers stretched their lead to 4-1 in the third, he was feeling much better. The Rangers had lost two straight since the All-Star break, mustering only one goal in the process, but Rick Nash and Dominic Moore scored in the first period, and Chris Kreider and Dan Boyle added insurance tallies 21 seconds apart in the third. That was enough to get Lundqvist his 24th win.Youre nervous for him, and your stomach drops a bit, said Rangers defenceman Marc Staal, who faced brothers Eric and Jordan — Hurricanes forwards. Anytime a guy is kind of rolling around and kicking his legs, you know its not good.Malone had the lone goal for the Hurricanes, who went 7-3-2 in January — their first winning month this season. Cam Ward stopped 33 shots in Carolinas first game of four-game trip that will continue out West.I thought we controlled a lot of the play, just a few breakdowns, Jordan Staal said. Thats a good team that will make you pay quick. We have to rebound. The Rangers have taken the first four meetings from the Hurricanes this season and have won 15 of 16 overall against Carolina, including nine straight at home.Lundqvist has been a big reason why. He also has experience with getting hit in the throat. He said he and his brother got into many fightts because of his wayward high slap shot. Brandon Sutter Jersey. My brother was an expert at that, actually, in practice, Lundqvist said. He hit me on the throat a lot of times, but not like this where my helmet kind of came off and I lost track of the puck.It could have been a lot worse. I feel lucky. After being treated for about 5 minutes, Lundqvist gathered himself as chants of Hen-rik, Hen-rik! filled Madison Square Garden. It was just unfortunate timing by me, McDonagh said. Im trying to box a guy out, and my stick kind of gets his mask up.I was a little nervous, but knowing the guy that he is, I thought for sure he would battle through.Lundqvists best save came just over a minute into the second when he got his skate on the puck to prevent Andrej Nestrasil from scoring into an open right side.Malone brought Carolina within a goal at 2-1 at 5:38 when he deflected in a pass from defenceman Ryan Murphy for his fourth of the season and third in five games.Weve played better, had the puck more, Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said. Our starts have been better. Have to crack the riddle (of) scoring goals. The Rangers spent much of the first period pinned in their zone. They were outshot 15-8 and relied on Lundqvist to bail them out multiple times — including in the closing seconds when he rolled onto his back to keep the puck from getting past him — and yet carried a 2-0 lead into the intermission. The first half of the game, we might have been up 2-0 but that was mostly because of Hanks play, said Rangers coach Alain Vigneault, who shuffled up his forward lines multiple times. We were up 2-0 but they had been the better team.Nash got New Yorks slumping offence rolling 6:30 in on the Rangers second shot. He intercepted Andrej Sekeras clearing pass in the neutral zone and brought the puck into the Carolina end. He snapped a shot from above the left circle and beat Ward for Nashs 29th goal — tying the NHL lead — and first in four games.NOTES: Rangers RW Lee Stempniak was scratched for the second time in three games. ... JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Suspended Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon has been arrested in Oklahoma on a complaint of marijuana possession. Blackmon, a former standout at Oklahoma State, was arrested Wednesday evening in the Oklahoma City suburb of Edmond. Police said they noticed his sedan go around stopped traffic in an attempt to get into a turn lane. Police spokeswoman Jenny Monroe said an officer detected a "heavy smell of marijuana" coming from the car, and that Blackmon admitted had smoked "a blunt" while driving and had another in his vehicle. Blackmon was arrested and booked into the Edmond jail, where he posted $657 bond. Blackmon was suspended without pay indefinitely last November for repeated violations of the NFLs substance-abuse policy. The Jaguars have been hesitant to cut the fifth overall pick in the 2012 draft. "I know our policy right now, I believe, is its not putting us in a difficult situation having him still be part of our organization in this capacity," Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said Thursday. "Its really hard by not having conversations with him. I really dont know how hes doing, where hes at. And then when we receive news like this, it creates more discussion. So Im sure those will be conversation well have (about) the direction well go." General manager Dave Caldwell and owner Shad Khan were scheduled to talk at a kickoff luncheon later in the day. Teammates seemed hardly surprised by Blackmons latest transgression. "Its just a difficult situation," quarterback Chad Henne said. "Its kind of ongoing. All we can do is pray that he finds a way to get on the right track and save his life." Added linebacker Paul Posluszny: "This is no longer a football issue. As his teammates, you hope he can do everything he can to get his life squared away. We feel for him and we obviously want the best for him because hes a good kid at heart. We want the best for him. Blackmon was suspended the first four games of last year for violating the leagues drug policy. He played four games before getting suspended again -- at least for a year. NFL rules prohibit the team from having any contact with Blackmon -- aside from texts -- during his suspension. With Blackmons uncertain future, the Jaguars drafted receivers Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson in the second round of Mays NFL draft. Both could get on the field right away, especially with fellow receiver Ace Sanders suspended the first four games of the season for violation the leagues drug policy. Blackmon has been involved in three substance-related incidents in three years. He was arrested on a misdemeanour DUI charge in Texas in 2010 after officers caught him speeding on a suburban Dallas highway. The charge was later reduced to an underage alcohol possession charge. A little more than a month after the Jaguars drafted him, he was arrested during a traffic stop in Stillwater, Oklahoma, after a breath test allegedly showed his blood alcohol content to be three times the legal limit. A subsequent violation landed him the four-game suspension. Another one got him the indefinite suspension. Blackmon caught 29 passes for 415 yards and a touchdown in the four games he played last season. He was the teams leading receiver during that stretch. While Blackmon sat out the first four games, the Jaguars averaged 224 yards of total offence. In the four games he played, Jacksonville hiked its offensive output to just over 350 yards per game. He has 93 catches for 1,280 yards and six scores in 20 games -- all since Jacksonville traded up to draft him in 2012. "Right now, all I can say is Im just praying that he can get the help that he needs," Bradley said. FRANKFURT, Germany -- World Cup winner Joachim Loew will remain the Germany coach through the 2016 European Championship in France. Carlos Hyde Jersey . There was speculation Loew might step down after Germany lifted its fourth World Cup title with a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final in Rio de Janeiro 10 days ago, although Loews contract was extended well before the tournament. "At the moment, I can imagine nothing more beautiful than to continue working with this team, to guide it to the European Championship in France, to develop the team and the individual players further," Loew said in an interview published on Wednesday on the German Football Federation (DFB) website. "I am as motivated as I was on the first day with DFB. We celebrated a gigantic success in Brazil but there are other goals that we want to achieve. The World Cup 2014 was a highlight for all, but it was not a conclusion." Loew said he needed some time to come to terms with his emotions after the World Cup but had not thought "even for a second" about stepping down. Loew has been with the DFB since 2004, and head coach since 2006, but had never won a title until the triumph in Brazil. Germany and Argentina have a rematch in a friendly in Duesseldorf on Sept. 3, before Germany kicks off qualifying for Euro 2016 against Scotland four days later. Before then, the 54-year-old Loew will have to find an assistant coach and a new captain. Hansi Flick, his assistant throughout his tenure, is to be the technical director at DFB. Philipp Lahm, captain since 2010, surprisingly ended his Germany career as soon as the team returned home. Lahm informed him about his decision to retire from internationals on the morning after the final, Loew said, calling it a great loss for the team. "I could not have wished for a better captain, he did an outstanding job influencing, leading and presenting the team," Loew said. "I regret that he will not return but I accept and respect his decision." Now he has a chance to win the U.S. Senior Open. Sauers crept up on the field and shot a 3-under 68 on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead after three rounds at Oak Tree National. He moved to 7 under, passing front-runners Bernhard Langer, Scott Dunlap and Colin Montgomerie along the way. The journey to this opportunity is what makes Sundays final round extra special for the 51-year-old Sauers. He said a reaction to a wrongly prescribed medication caused Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a disorder that burned the skin on his arms and legs from the inside out. While he was in the hospital for seven weeks recovering, he pictured his golf swing. He got out of the hospital in June 2011 and eventually returned to the course. "The good Lord said Im going to give you another chance," Sauers said. "Bogey doesnt matter that much anymore. Thats when I learned to have a great time and tried to hit everything I was capable of doing, and it worked out today." Langer and Dunlap are tied for second at 4 under. Montgomerie is another stroke back in fourth. It looked as if Montgomerie might run away from the field early on in the third round. He opened with birdies on Nos. 1 and 3 to jump out to a four-shot lead over Langer, who by then had moved from third to second. Langer remained steady and Montgomerie bogeyed Nos. 5 and 7. Heading into the back nine, Mongomeries lead was just one shot. Then Sauers got going. He had a 33 on the back nine, including birdies on Nos. 12, 16 and 18, to take control heading into the final round. It was an impressive run for someone who hasnt placed higher than 15th in a Champions Tour event this season. "Ive got some help back home," Sauers said. "Some friends and some teachers have been helping me a little bit. Theyve got me hitting the ball solid now. Building my confidence is mainly what they do. They know I still have it. You know, its just -- go outt there and do it. Howard Wilson Browns Jersey. Try not to put too much pressure on myself and try to have fun." Montgomerie shot a 74 after leading at the end of the first two days. He was 3 over on the back nine, but is confident he can regain some of his earlier touch. "I will try to do what I did Thursday with a 65," he said. "If I can do it Thursday, I can do it Sunday. If I can hit it in the fairway, I can play to the strength of my game, which is the iron game." Langer, who has three wins this season on the Champions Tour, was solid, but had several potential birdies just miss during his even-par 71. "Sometimes they lip in, sometimes they lip out," he said. "It was frustrating. I played really good golf on the back nine, the last nine holes, had a lot of chances, lot of opportunities and I think I had four lip-outs or something and left one short on 18 and could have easily been three better but could have, should have, would have doesnt count in this game." Langer isnt conceding yet. "I played pretty solid golf for three days in a row and the putter was hot yesterday," he said. "Wasnt so hot today, but, you know, well see what happens tomorrow. Weve still got 18 holes to go. Its a lot of golf left, and anything can happen." Marco Dawson, who shot a 76 on Friday, rebounded with a 69 on Saturday. He left Friday disappointed and saying he was unsure how to play the course. On Saturday, he was 1 over through six, and then got on a torrid stretch that included birdies on Nos. 7, 8, 10, 12, 13 and 15 to move into a tie for the lead at 5 under. Dawson bogeyed Nos. 16, 17 and 18 to fall to 2 under. He is tied for fifth with Jeff Sluman and Vijay Singh. Dawson said he expects it to be tough to get good scores on Sunday because the course will continue to dry out in near 100-degree heat. "Unless somebody just gets really hot with the putter and gets some good bounces, you know, the best score may be 4, 5 under tomorrow," he said. • While rehabbing a broken jaw in Philadelphia recently, Samuel Morin wasnt allowed to eat solid foods for a month. D.J. Moore Jersey . The 19-year-old defenceman drank a lot of smoothies and some less appetizing meals.Steak in a blender, chicken in a blender, everything in a blender, Morin said. It was disgusting. Awful.Morins diet is solidified again and so is his life. Hes back playing hockey and at six foot seven brings an element of size and strength to Canadas world junior hockey team that no one else can provide.Hes not an easy player to play against in the corner, coach Benoit Groulx said at the teams pre-tournament camp in St. Catharines, Ont. We need that presence on the back end that can make a big difference in tight games because when you look at this tournament its all about winning battles in corners, winning battles in front of the net, and I think hes got the size and the stick and hes smart enough to get that done.Morin, a first-round pick of the Flyers in 2013, came closer than most thought to making the NHL club out of training camp. Sent back to Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Morin suffered a fractured jaw when he took a one-timer from the Remparts Kurt Etchegary to the right side of his face. That was Oct. 12 in his fifth game of the season. Morin remembers everything about the play.Oh my God, worst injury I ever had, Morin said. One-timer straight in the face, you dont see that a lot. Sometimes it deflects, but that was straight in the face. It just destroyed my jaw. I had no time (to react). After his steak-in-a-blender period, Morin returned five weeks later but with a full face shield. The St-Henri, Que., native had to think twice about what he did.My game changed in junior because when someone boarded me I cannot say, You want to fight? I cant do my tough guy (act) anymore, Morin said. For sure it changed a little bit of my game, but here (at the world juniors) I cannot fight so it changes nothing.Morin doesnt need to fight to be an imposing force for Canada. He wants opponents to see his size on the roster and think twice when they go into the corners with him. While the Flyers hope he can be the next Chris Pronger, Morin has two other players he feels like hes more like. One is Zdeno Chara, a similarly sized defenceman with a big shot who can play in all situations. The other is a defenceman who was part of Canadas 2005 world junior gold-medal team, Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf.Dion Phaneuf, when they won the gold here, proved it: You can be a physical player. Even though he was not fighting he was hitting everything, Morin said. I dont want to hit everything and get out of the play because I want to hit, but I think I can finish all my checks.Canada, which opens the tournament Friday against Slovakia, will count on Morin to do just that. The defence includes plenty of puck-movers and offensive prowess, but Morin is the muscle. In a tournament like that, you need size, you need strength, you need speed, Groulx said. We like the balance we have with our defencemen. I think theyre all big, they can skate well, theyre pretty strong. Sam brings that element.Except Morin doesnt see himself as a one-dimensional big guy. He understands and embraces a shutdown role but doesnt underestimate his own skills.I think Im a big guy, I got some skills. Im a good skater, Ive got a good shot, Morin said. I got a long reach, I can play with the puck. I want to play like a little guy more. But I have to realize Im a big guy and I need to make some simple plays.Groulx scouted Morin as far back as midget hockey and coached against him in the QMJHL. He said Morin has decent skill and can skate well for a big man.Teammates see that, too.Hes definitely a great skater for how big he is and hes got a great shot and he can use his skills to manage (the puck), defenceman Madison Bowey said. Yet, the familiar tales kept on coming. Not that anyone is feeling sorry for them. City remain relative new boys to the big scene and nowhere has that been more evident than in the UEFA co-efficient system that has handed them difficult groups in each of their four campaigns so far. In 2011, it was Bayern Munich and Napoli that stopped them from progressing, while in 2012, they were exposed, finishing last in a true a€?championsa€? group that consisted of Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and Ajax. Last season, under Pellegrini, they performed much better, winning five of six matches, but still finished second to reigning champions Bayern Munich. That forced them up against a group winner in the last 16 and they were outclassed over two legs by Barcelona. This year they were handed Bayern Munich. Again. For the third year out of four. And CSKA Moscow for the second-straight season. After losing in Munich on Matchday One of the tournament, City were already facing up to the prospect of likely finishing second once again in their group. Such a scenario, of course, is not always a bad thing, provided City can show that they have the qualities to be mature enough to get the job done in Europe against top teams. Such a test was presented to them on Tuesday night against the fourth team in Group E, high-flying Roma. Two years on from that night in Madrid, the fans were no longer divided in their expectations. Before they played Roma, City had played 21 Champions League matches in four seasons, won eight, drawn four and lost nine. The eight wins had come only against four teams a€“ Villarreal, Viktoria Plzen, CSKA Moscow a€“ all twice a€“ and twice against Bayern Munich when, each time, the German giants had already qualified for the last 16. City fans werena€?t the only ones thinking the club had something to prove. I fancy City to put down a Champions League mmarker and beat Roma convincingly tonight, tweeted Michael Owen, only hours before the match. D.J. Moore Panthers Jersey. Whenever European footballa€?s elite competition comes around almost as familiar as Manchester Citya€?s Champions League opponents is the na?ˉve, borderline biased, analysis from sections of the English media around a Premier League opponent. It happened again at the Etihad on Tuesday. Tony Gale, in charge of providing colour commentary, said about Roma early in the game, that Roma was not as frightening a side as it has been down the years. Shortly before half-time he added that City shouldna€?t be giving this team a chance. The same City who lost to Stoke at home earlier in the month indeed struggled to insert any form of dominance on the game, but Roma played a huge part in that. After 25 minutes, it was already 1-1. City had been handed the perfect start when Maicon pulled Sergio Agueroa€?s shirt and the Argentine stroked home the penalty. The moment of the match, though, happened midway through the first half when Francesco Totti scored his first-ever goal in England with a magnificent finish over Joe Hart. Hart was at fault for being slow to react, before a key slip, but not as culpable as Vincent Kompany who, again, stepped up and wandered out of the backline a€“ to track the intelligent Totti a€“ and Yaya Toure, who simply allowed Seydou Keita to stroll past him into midfield. It was hardly a shining moment for Citya€?s spine. Tactically Pellegrinia€?s side were na?ˉve, playing with just two central midfielders, and Romaa€?s midfield trio took over the game in the first half as Totti dropped deep and even made it four-versus-two at times. David Silva was then forced to drift off the left flank to make up a three and thata€?s why Maicon had so much space to get forward on that flank. Shortly before the hour, Pellegrini removed Edin Dzeko for Frank Lampard and City had more control on the game, but they werena€?t good enough to go on and win the match, as they couldna€?t reach the level of tempo that this club so often shows domestically. a€?We didna€?t play well,a€? admitted the manager afterwards. More familiar tales for City. It was the fourth-successive Champions League season where they had failed to win their opening home match. A team that has won two Premier League titles on the back of some wonderful home performances will know all too well what a challenge that now brings in terms of qualification. They now must win back-to-back clashes with CSKA, something they did last year, and likely find a way to win at home to Bayern Munich and/or in Rome on the final matchday if they want to progress. They certainly have the players to accomplish such a feat, but the truth is the English champions once again failed to deliver when asked to sit at the top table for European footballa€?s showpiece event. Any more performances like this one on a European night and City will be ending their Champions League campaign far too prematurely for a fourth-successive season. • NEWARK, N. Josh Ferguson Colts Jersey .J. -- The Detroit Red Wings made the most of their offensive opportunities against the New Jersey Devils on Friday. "It was a game that was offensively challenged by both teams," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said after his Red Wings beat the Devils 3-1. Johan Franzen and Tomas Tatar scored third-period goals Detroit, which has won five of six. Joakim Andersson also scored and Jonas Gustavsson made 10 saves for the Red Wings. "(The Red Wings have) to keep (winning). Tough without big guys but its important to see we can win without them," Franzen said. "(Its) big for us to see we can win without them." Cory Schneider made 18 saves for New Jersey, which has lost three in a row. "We didnt play our best game of the year," Steve Bernier said. "There (are) a lot of bad things around right now, but we need to focus on the good things." The Red Wings finished with 21 shots while the Devils only had 11. The 11 shots tied a New Jersey franchise record for fewest shots in a home game. "We didnt cash in (on) some of our chances. We have to be opportunistic. We have to find a way to score two or three and we didnt do that," New Jersey coach Pete DeBoer said. "Its easy to look at the shot clock and say that (11 shots on goal is not enough). Weve generated 21 shots and generated the same amount of scoring chances. (If the shot clock says) 21, you feel better about it? It doesnt matter." Andy Greene scored for the Devils. Franzen snapped a 1-1 tie when he scored his ninth of the season with 7:20 left in the third. Standing in the low slot, Franzen poked a Gustav Nyquist pass past Schneider. "Its always hard to defend when you change sides for the defender so I tried and sneak around the back post and found it through the crease," Franzen said of his goal. New Jersey led 1-0 at the first intermission on Greenes fourth goal of the season. Having drawn a high-sticking call on Franzen, Greene weaved his way through all three zones before finishing a give-and-go with Patrik Elias by tipping a centring pass under Gustavsson 13:43 into the game. "It wasnt our best period but we came out the way we did against a good team (and) we have to take that and build off it. We just couldnt seem (to) build off it and get it going," Greene said. "They were kind of sitting back on the drop pass, before I gave it to Patty. Tried to make the play to Patty and he made a great saucer over to me, and (I) just tried to hang with it to get it over his pad." The power-play goal was the only one New Jersey scored on four opportunities with the man advantage. Detroit drew even at 1-1 after Andersson scored with 36 seconds left in the second period. The scoring sequence began when Daniel Alfredsson fired a diagonal cross-ice pass to Drew Miller from the blue line. Miller attempted two backhands which Schneider stopped, but the New Jersey goaltender was unable to stop Anderssons jam shot. The goal was the fourth of the season for Andersson. The game stayed tied until Franzens goal. Tatars power-play score at 18:57 of the third was Detroits only goal on five attempts with the man advantage. The power play was assessed when Schneider was called for playing the puck outside of the trapezoid. New Jersey disputed the call and replays showed the goaltender was inside the trapezoid. "I dont know," DeBoer said when asked if the NHL should institute an instant replay system on disputed judgment calls. "Im not looking to solve it, just get it right." Both Detroit and New Jersey were content to take away the middle of the ice and, as a result, neither team generated much offensively. "I dont think it was any tighter than any other game," the Devils Travis Zajac said. We just didnt execute coming out of our own end sometimes. For us, we have to play in the other end. "We (needed) to elevate our game as it went on and we didnt." NOTES: Detroit improved to 49-56-21-0 against the New Jersey franchise. ... Jefferson Farfan opened the scoring in the 39th, converting from close range after Sead Kolasinac outran Hannover defender Marcelo on the left. Farfan instigated Schalkes second goal five minutes later, playing through a brilliant ball for Atsuto Uchida, who cut back for Klaas Jan Huntelaar and he in turn left it for the better positioned Max Meyer to stroke home. Huntelaar headed over early in the second half and Meyer drew a good stop from Hannover keeper Ron-Robert Zieler as the home side came closest to adding to the scoreline. "I think we played very well," Meyer said. "Thats three wins from three since the winter break. I think the training camp together did us well. It brought us closer together as a team." Schalke opened a four-point gap over Borussia Moenchengladbach to consolidate the last Champions League qualification place, while Hannover remains 10th after Tayfun Korkuts first defeat as coach. The visitors opened the scoring against the run of play in the 35th minute through Arkadiusz Milik and built on the lead when Halil Altintop sprung the offside trap for Andre Hahn to finish with aplomb in the 44th. Stuttgarts hopes effectively evaporated with Vedad Ibisevics sending off in the 53rd. TV replays showed the Bosnian striker struck out at Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Brackers face in an off-the-ball incident, leading the Augsburg defender to fall to the ground. Hahn scored his second of the game three minutes later for his ninth of the season. Konstantin Rausch pulled one back for Stuttgart in the 62nd, but Tobias Werner ended any hopes of an unlikely comeback two minutes later. Augsburg stretched its unbeaten run to eight league games and climbed to eighth, while Stuttgart is just two points off the relegation zone after its seventh defeat in eight games. "Its a difficult period. There were many negative highlights for us today," Stuttgart sports director Fredi Bobic said. "The first goal was the turning point. TMZ has released an audio recording where a voice identified as Donald Sterling, owner of the LA Clippers, is making highly offensive remarks about African-Americans to his then-girlfriend V. DaeSean Hamilton Broncos Jersey . Stiviano. The Comments He are some of the comments attributed to Sterling on the recording: - "It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that youre associating with black people. Do you have to?" - "You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that ... and not to bring them to my games." - "Im just saying, in your lousy (expletive) Instagram, you dont have to have yourself with, walking with black people." - "...Dont put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And dont bring him to my games." League Responds NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has expressed profound disappointment over the comments and has urged the public to allow for due process to run its course before any action is taken. "All members of the NBA family should be afforded due process and a fair opportunity to present their side of any controversy," Mr. Silver said, "which is why Im not yet prepared to discuss any potential sanctions against Donald Sterling. We will, however, move extraordinarily quickly in our investigation." The Clippers have declared that these comments do not reflect the views of Sterling and that they are looking into the issue. The public was also reminded that the source of the recording, Stiviano, is being sued by Sterlings wife for embezzling $1.8 million in the form of cash, cars and other items from the Clippers owner, thereby suggesting that the veracity of the recording should be questioned. Investigation The first step for the NBA is authenticating the recording. That means confirming that the voice on the recording is that of Sterling and that the recording was not doctored. Sterling may admit that the voice is his, but allege that his ex-girlfriend doctored the tape as payback for being sued by the Clippers owner. Authenticating the recording may not be an easy process. The NBA will need to get Stiviano to agree to be interviewed (likely under oath), which she may decline. If she refuses to talk to the league, there is little it can do to force her since the NBA does not have subpoena power (or an ability to force Stiviano to submit to an interview). The NBA could also hire an expert to review the recording to assess the likelihood that it has been tampered with and whether the voice is that of Sterling. The NBA is being criticized for not suspending Sterling pending the outcome of the investigation. While the sentiment is understandable, the NBA is bang on here. It is important to observe the principles of fundamental justice, which include that justice be administered fairly. A person is entitled to a fair shake even in the face of despicable comments. The NBA is proceeding with its investigation expeditiously and is aiming to have it done in a "few days". Until then, it is important, if not critical, that the process be respected. Fines, Suspensions and Sale of Team Some people around the league want Sterling gone permanently given his a history of being racially insensitive. In 2009, Sterling was sued for discriminatory housing practices after being accused of seeking to drive African-Americans and Latinos from his apartment buildings. The billionaire settled the lawsuit by paying $2.725 million. He was also sued by his former GM Elgin Baylor, who filed a wrongful termination lawsuit that included allegations of racism. In part, Baylor alleged that Sterling rejected a coach because he was African-American. While some want Sterling gone, the NBA is unlikely to force Sterling to sell the team. If the league tried, they would likely be sued by Sterling, who in part, would allege that the league is violating antitrust laws. If successful, such a lawsuit could get Sterling a massive payout. A more likely scenario is a long suspension. And there is a precedent for that: former Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott. In December 1992, Schott was quoted in the New York Times as saying that her use of the N-word was a joke after referring to Eric Davis and Dave Parker as her "million-dollar n------". In that same interview, she made favourable comments about Adolf Hitler. As a result, MLB suspended Schott for one year. In 1996, she was suspended for another two years after more racially insensitive comments. In 1998, with her health failing, she agreed to sell the team. Apart from a suspension, we could also see a substantial fine. Ultimately, a fine of $1 million to $5 million would not be surprise. If authenticated, the comments are of course completely unacceptable, highly offensive and frankly disturbing. As well, according to a recent report, African-Americans comprise 76 per cent of all NBA players, while 81 per cent of players are of colour. So the NBA knows one thing: it has to get this right. And that may mean a long suspension and hefty fine. Expulsion, however, doesnt seem likely given the legal challenges. Isaac Yiadom Jersey . "We understood the dog days (of the season) would be a grind," Vogel said. "Now thats behind us." David West had 17 points and Lance Stephenson added 13 to help the Pacers beat the Hawks for the second time in three meetings this season. Not only does Indiana want to start the second half of the season like it did back in October, the Pacers want to be even better. That could be scary for the rest of the NBA. "We want to peak towards the end of the season and were on our way," centre Roy Hibbert said. "The last 20 games, we want to play our best ball." Kyle Korver scored 19 points, shooting 5 for 7 on 3-pointers, and Lou Williams added 18 points for the Hawks, who have lost six straight. The Pacers, who return from the break with three games in five days, went on a 12-2 run in the third quarter on a basket by West, two 3-pointers by George and a dunk and layup by George Hill to stretch the lead to 73-54. The Pacers put the game away when Ian Mahinmi converted a three-point play and Danny Granger hit a 3 to make it 101-82. After the Pacers jumped to a 19-point lead in the third quarter, the Hawks scored seven straight. Korver hit a 3, Jeff Teague made two free throws, and Williams had a layup to make it 75-63. West gave Indiana an 80-67 lead with two free throws before Atlanta scored six straight on shots by Mike Scott, Williams, and Paul Millsap. And centre Gustavo Ayon left in the first half with a right shoulder injury and didnt play in the second half. Later, George, who scored 14 first-quarter points, hit a jumper, a 3-pointer, and later dunked with 7:00 remaining in the opening period. "We werent getting good looks at the basket," Korver said. "They were making everything it seemed like and we dug ourselves a really big hole." Indiana led by 22 in the first quarter when Stephenson scored with 4:37 left to give the Pacers a 31-9 lead. The Hawks then went on a 12-2 run. Elton Brand scored and Korver hit a 3-pointer. West made two free throws to extend the lead for Indiana before Williams hit a 3 and two free throws, and Millsap scored to make it 33-19. "We have to be able to get off to good starts," George said. "We have got to understand that teams are going to rally back, but I thought they made the game closer than it needed to be when we had a good lead." The Hawks got within three when Korver hit a 3 to make it 52-49 with 1:02 left in the first half, but never could get over the hump. George made two free throws and Hill hit a 3 with 7.2 seconds left in the first half to give the Pacers a 57-49 halftime lead. Jeremy Lamb Jersey . American Cheyenne Woods, niece of Tiger Woods, and South African Stacey Lee Bregman both followed first round 69s with six-under second rounds of 67 to lead the European and Australian tour event by a shot at 10-under 136. Webb signed for a second-straight 1-over 74 which would have made the cut. She quickly notified officials she had made an error, signing for par on the 12th when she had made bogey. Ladies European Tour tournament director Fraser Munro said "it was quite clear she signed for an incorrect scorecard. She was obviously disappointed." "She needs to verify all her 18 hole scores," Munro said. "Thats her duty. Shes not properly checked her scorecard and left the recording area." After a three-putt bogey on her ninth hole Woods, who started at the 10th, sank a 7-iron from the fairway for eagle at the par-4 first. Bregman had six birdies on an unblemished scorecard to share the lead by a shot from Englands Trish Johnson with Swedens Camilla Lennarth, formerly of the University of Alabama, a further shot behind. "It was a great day today," Woods said. "I played pretty steady throughout the entire round. "My putter was working really well for me and I was hitting the ball well so, like I said, it was just a steady day. "The highlight was definitely my No. 10, holing from the fairway." Bregman played almost her entire round without an 8-iron after breaking the club against a tree on the first hole. • The Netherlands can reach its second consecutive World Cup final with a victory over Argentina on Wednesday at the Area de Sao Paulo. John Lynch Jersey . Listen to the game live on TSN 1050, TSN 690, TSN 1200, TSN 1260 and TEAM 1410 at 4pm et/1pm pt. The Dutch reached the World Cup final in South Africa in 2010 after topping Uruguay, 3-2, but faced Spain in the final and fell 1-0. Louis van Gaals side will surely draw motivation for Wednesdays clash from that defeat, something not lost on midfielder Wesley Sneijder. "Sometimes you have to suffer to obtain success," he said. "The final in 2010 was very painful but the disappointment drives you on. "We feel we have more experience, a strong squad, some great players and now we know it is so close for us again. We have come through so much together and grown with the tournament. Now it gets even harder." The Dutch should be riding high on confidence after knocking off the tournaments Cinderella squad on Saturday, topping Costa Rica 4-3 on penalty kicks after the sides played to a scoreless draw in extra time. The Dutch controlled much of the match but only created their first real scoring opportunity in the 21st minute when Robin van Persie latched on to Memphis Depays through ball and fired a left-footed shot on target, but Keylor Navas was able to parry the attempt to the top of the penalty area. The clearance only went as far as Sneijder, who lashed the rebound back toward goal, but Navas was equal to the task once again. Navas denied Sneijder again in the 39th minute when the Galatasaray midfielder uncorked a brilliant free kick from distance that looked destined for the upper corner, but the Levante keeper pushed the shot aside to send the two sides into halftime scoreless. The Dutch continued to find scoring chances in extra time as Costa Rica looked absolutely exhausted. Sneijder hit the woodwork for a second time when he took a layoff from Jeremain Lens in the 119th minute and curled a superb effort toward goal with his favorite right foot, and a relieved Navas could only help but watch the strike come back into play off the crossbar. Heading into the penalty shootout, Van Gaal used his final substitution to replace goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen with Newcastle United keeper Tim Krul and the move was a masterstroke as Krul stopped two Costa Rica penalties to hand his side the victory. "In terms of team spirit and togetherness, this is the best group Ive worked with. I thought we had more quality than Costa Rica and deserved to win. I dont know how much ball possession we had, how many times we hit the woodwork and how many chances we had -- in the end its all about scoring," Van Gaal said. "We have practiced pens, I believe when youre used to a certain way of shooting youll be more comfortable taking that shot. We told Tim Krul that he would be the best goalkeeper for the penalties as hes bigger; we didnt tell Cillessen, as we didnt want to ruin his preparation and concentration. There is no question about who will start next game, it will be Cillessen. But we felt Krul was the better choice here -- and he proved that. He guessed the correct way for every penalty." Argentina heads into its first semifinal since 1990 hoping to earn a chance to play for its third Jules Rimet trophy, having already advanced further than their 2010 campaign when the side was thumped, 4-0, by Germany in the quarterfinals. Argentina also knocked off a potential Cinderella in the quarterfinals after earning a 1-0 victory over Belgium courtesy of a goal from Gonzalo Higuain at the Estadio Nacional. Through this World Cup, Argentinas performances have left plenty to be desired, but theyve gotten the necessary results and Wednesday represents an opportunity to put in a quality performance against a very good opponent. The goal came after just eight minutes as Angel Di Maria attempted to deliver a pass into the penalty area that was deflected by a Belgium defender. The ball fell kindly to the feet of Higuain and he hammered a first-time shot perfectly inside the left post. "Ever since the first game Ive been saying that I wasnt worried, that my first goal would come, and fortunately it came at a crucial time," Higuain said. "Its been a long time since Argentina reached the semifinals and Im happy its this group of players that managed it, because they deserve it. Now we want to keep going and reach the final." Alejandro Sabellas team will have a significant void to fill on Wednesday as Di Maria was forced off the pitch in the 33rd minute with a thigh injury 33rd minute, was replaced by Enzo Perez, and is unavailable for Wednesday. Despite the injury, Sabellas team will hope for more than just a semifinal appearance. "Weve achieved our minimum objective, which was to reach the last four, but we want more. Thats what weve come for," Sabella said. Vinny Curry Jersey .
