  • The Rangers take the series lead, again; the Blackhawks blow away the Blues and the Ducks stage a miraculous comeback to oust the Stars. Mike Quick Womens Jersey . Notes on Couturier, Keith, Seabrook, Miller, Daley, Seguin and more. RANGERS DOUBLE UP FLYERS The New York Rangers got goals from some less likely sources -- including Marc Staal, Dominic Moore and Brian Boyle, into an empty net -- to win Game Five over the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-2, givng the Blueshirts a 3-2 series lead. The other Rangers goal-scorer was Brad Richards, and it came off a goal-mouth scramble that netted J.T. Miller and assist. Miller, the 21-year-old who was a first-round pick in 2011, has 10 points in 56 career games with the Rangers, but had 43 points in 41 AHL games this season and joined a line with Richards and Carl Hagelin. New Yorks line of Derek Stepan, Rick Nash and Martin St. Louis controlled play. Aside from setting up Staals game-opening goal, the trio was on for more than 70% of 5-on-5 shot attempts, mostly against the Flyers line of Sean Couturier, Matt Read and Jason Akeson. Couturier and Read are the Flyers forwards playing the most in this series and Couturier hasnt recorded a single point. Yes, hes a responsible checking centre, but its tough to run a forward out for more than 100 minutes in five games and get no points out of that ice-time investment. Inserted into the Flyers lineup for an injured Nicklas Grossman, Hal Gill had a rough game, involved in two Rangers goals against, and it was a hard situation in which to place a guy who had played two games since Christmas. The series heads back to Philadelphia for Game Six and the Flyers have to find a way to generate better results in a hurry. The Blueshirts hold a possession edge and have the better goaltender. BYE BYE BLUES Tied 1-1 going into the third period of Game Six, the Chicago Blackhawks erupted for four goals to pull away from the St. Louis Blues, finishing off the series. Blackhawks D Duncan Keith led the way offensively, tallying a goal and three assists, and with Keith on the ice, the Blackhawks held a 20-13 (60.6%) edge in shot attempts. With Keith off the ice, the 5-on-5 shot attempts favoured St. Louis 32-16 (66.7%). Keiths defence partner, Brent Seabrook, had a couple of assists in his first game back after serving a three-game suspension, and RW Andrew Shaw added a goal and an assist. Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews was the pace-setter in the series, scoring three goals and seven points, with all of his goals counting as game-winners. Seabrook, who only played in three games due to his suspension, finished the series with six points and Keiths big Game Six gave him seven points for the series as well. For the Blues, there is going to be a lot of reflection because this is a team that expected to last longer than one round in the postseason, but this result shouldnt raise major concerns. They played the Blackhawks very evenly, with four of the six games in the series going to overtime, and had to play two of the games without their No. 1 centre. Considering the late run of injuries that led to the Blues losing six straight to end the regular season, setting up this matchup, its also fair to wonder if the Blues could have fared better with fewer health concerns. The Blues held a slight possession edge in the series, but got the second-best goaltending results. Chicagos Corey Crawford stopped 201 of 215 shots (.935 SV%) while Blues G Ryan Miller, after getting torched for five goals on 26 shots in the series finale, stopped 166 of 185 (.897 SV%). Could the Blues use an upgrade or two? Sure, maybe a centre to help Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko, or a premier finisher for the top line that could allow T.J. Oshie or Alexander Steen to slide to the second line. In the end, the Blues were a really good team that played well, but not quite well enough to knock off the defending champs, who are legitimate Cup contenders again this year. There is no shame in losing to this Blackhawks team. The Blackhawks will now wait for the winner of the Colorado-Minnesota series and Chicago will be favoured against either one.. FALLING STARS Just when it looked like the Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks would be headed back to Anaheim for Game Seven -- with the Stars holding a 4-2 lead late in the third period -- a goal-mouth scramble resulted in coincidental roughing penalties to Dallas Alex Chiasson and Anaheims Andrew Cogliano. 16 seconds later, Nick Bonino tied the game. Then, with 24 seconds left, Devante Smith-Pelly pounced on a loose puck and buried it for the tying goal. 2:47 into overtime, Bonino scored again, giving the Ducks a dramatic 5-4 win in Game Six, allowing the Ducks to escape with a series victory not so long after it appeared that the series was surely going the distance. Bonino and Smith-Pelly each had a pair of goals for Anaheim, while Corey Perry and Teemu Selanne each delivered a pair of assists. Selanne played 14:08 and had five shots on goal, both marking highs for him in a series that saw him made a healthy scratch. That the Ducks won a series in which they yanked starting goaltender Frederik Andersen twice shows just how back-and-forth it was. Andersen was pulled from Game Six after allowing four goals on 12 shots, leaving him with an .892 save percentage in the series; the kind of play that could leave virtually-exiled veteran Jonas Hiller an opportunity to start at some point in Round Two. Hiller stopped all 12 shots he faced after relieving Andersen. The Stars were led in Game Six, and for good portions of the series, by their top defence tandem of Trevor Daley and Alex Goligoski. Daley had two goals and an assist Sunday, while Goligoski added two assists. They combined for nine points in the series and were both on for more than 58% of the 5-on-5 shot attempts when they were on the ice. Stars C Cody Eakin had a goal and an assist in the deciding game, giving him five points for the series; tied with Daley, LW Jamie Benn and C Shawn Horcoff for the team scoring lead. Stars C Tyler Seguin could have used some more reward for what was relatively impressive play. He was on the ice for 61.8% of 5-on-5 shot attempts and had 29 shots on goal in six games, yet mustered one goal and three points. There was a real opportunity for the Stars to take this series, but needed a more decisive advantage in goal, particularly with Andersen running hot and cold. In the Dallas net, Kari Lehtonen stopped 146 of 165 shots (.885%) and, as it turns out, that was only a save or two short of what the Stars needed to push this series to the limit. Even though the Stars won the possession battle, they couldnt slow down Anaheims otherwordly 5-on-5, score close shooting percentage (12.7% in Round One). Now, the Ducks wait for the winner of the Sharks and Kings which will, in either case, present a daunting matchup. But, after the way the Ducks won Game Six, let em celebrate a bit first. Justine finished first with a score of 22.44 while Chloe was second with 21.66 points. Defending champion Hannah Kearney of the U.S., was third at 21.49. A third Dufour-Lapointe sister, Maxime, failed to make the final group and finished 12th while Audrey Robichaud of Quebec City was 10th.It was a brave decision from Vancouver Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie, but it worked to perfection. Rennies decision to leave the clubs leading scorer Camilo out of the lineup for Saturdays match at Montreal was a major talking point leading into the all-Canadian matchup, but the Scottish coach got the outcome he had been hoping for. Camilo was left out in favour of Tommy Heinemann, a big, strong, bustling forward. Speaking to Rennie ahead of the game he explained his decision was made largely due to the opposition. He wanted Heinemann on from the start to use his physical attributes against Montreals backline, and he planned to unleash Camilo late in the game when the Impact defence had been worn down. It worked a treat. The Whitecaps ended up beating Montreal 3-0 and giving a major boost to their fading playoff hopes. It was a third road win of the season and a second clean sheet in a row. There were plenty of nervous moments along the way, and some controversy as well, but the end result was probably better than Rennie had even dared dream about. Heinemanns inclusion had the desired effect early in the game, making a nuisance of himself around the Impacts central defensive pairing of Alessandro Nesta and Matteo Ferrari, and the Whitecaps early breakthrough came from the penalty spot as Kenny Miller scored to give them a seventh-minute lead. There was no doubt about the decision from referee Jorge Gonzalez who penalized Impact defender Hassoun Camara for a handball. That opportunity was created following a strong run down the right by Nigel Reo-Coker who had an excellent first half for Vancouver. The Impact had plenty of chances to equalize, hit the bar a couple of times, and had it not been for a string of good saves by Whitecaps Danish goalkeeper David Ousted, Montreal would have been back in the match. However, as they pushed forward looking for a leveling goal late in the game, Camilo came off the bench to score two in two minutes – including a wonderstrike – to seal the points for the Caps. Its now 16 goals for the season for the Brazilian who sits two behind Montreals Marco Di Vaio for the league lead in scoring. The Impact will also point to an incident just before half time as a major turning point in the match. With the Whitecaps leading 11-0, referee Gonzalez awarded a penalty to Montreal following a long range strike by Patrice Bernier that struck Whitecaps midfielder Jun Marques Davidson around the top of the arm. Wes Hopkins Womens Jersey. Gonzalez then changed his mind following consultation with the other officials – although they were standing at halfway. It was a decision that Impact coach Marco Schallibaum called "a scandal," and Impact President Joey Saputo complained on Twitter: "PK or not, how does the furthest official on the field, overturn a referees call?" Saputo has a point. It was a situation that caused massive frustration because the referee was on the spot, made the call, and then seemed to changed his mind based on advice given by people much further away from the incident. However, even with the benefit of replays in the broadcast booth, it was very difficult for us to make a definitive call about whether it should have been a penalty. If the officials are not certain, they shouldnt give a spot kick. The result in Montreal leaves the Whitecaps in a much more positive position as they head home for back-to-back games against Real Salt Lake and Portland Timbers. The playoffs are still a long shot – that was only Vancouvers second win in 10 matches – but at least they are still alive. A win at home to RSL next Saturday (7pm et/4pm pt on TSN2) would see them climb to within one point of fifth-placed Colorado with four games remaining, two of which are against the Denver club. For the Impact, it was a concerning week. Despite playing well for periods in all three of their matches, they ended up with three defeats in a row (Two MLS, one Champions League) conceding eight goals in the process. By the end of the weekend, the Impact had fallen six points behind Eastern Conference leaders New York. Montreal are still third in the standings, but they are now just two points ahead of fourth-placed Houston Dynamo, and with an aging squad the Impact know the importance of finishing in the top three and avoiding the additional fourth vs. fifth match to open the playoffs. With back-to-back road games on the way against Chicago and Houston, Schallibaum will be hoping his team can tighten up defensively, whilst also showing a more clinical touch in front of goal. ' ' '

  • CHICAGO - Al Montoyas sweet homecoming was one sour night for Jonathan Toews and Co. cheap china jerseys . Montoya made 34 saves in his first win in his hometown and Andrew Ladd scored his 150th goal, leading the Winnipeg Jets to a 3-1 victory over the slumping Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. "This is very special. Ive been waiting for this one since I was a kid," said Montoya, who dropped his first two career starts at Chicago. "I cant even describe it, all my friends, all my family in the stands. Ive had some close ones, some good games in here, but this one takes it." Blake Wheeler had two third-period goals as Winnipeg (25-24-5) won for the second straight day, improving to 6-1 under new coach Paul Maurice. It also averted a season sweep by the Blackhawks, who won each of the first three games between the teams. "That win right there is just a great sign of character," Maurice said. Chicago (32-10-12) controlled the first two periods of its last home game before the Olympic break, but still went on to its third three-game slide of the season. The Stanley Cup champions open a seven-game trip Tuesday night in Calgary, and will not play again in Chicago until they take on Pittsburgh at Soldier Field on March 1. Brandon Bollig scored in the first for the Blackhawks, and Corey Crawford had 18 saves. "We just threw away another two points," Toews said. "I dont really have an explanation without seeming negative." The Blackhawks got Duncan Keith back after the defencemen missed Thursday nights 2-1 loss at Minnesota due to an illness. But coach Joel Quenneville scratched forward Bryan Bickell, who has struggled since returning from a lower-body injury. "Coachs decision. We need a lot more," Quenneville said. "Were looking for more." Chicago led 1-0 before Wheeler sent a rebound over Crawfords right glove at 8:16 of the third for his 20th goal. Marian Hossa then had a turnover deep in the Blackhawks end, and Ladd buried the open look against his former team for the tiebreaking goal at 12:53, drawing groans from the sellout crowd at the United Center. Wheeler added an empty-netter for his fourth goal in the last four games. "We know they have a lot of talent there and they like to control the puck," Ladd said. "But at the same time, you do get some chances against them. So we figured heading into the third with that one-goal lead we could turn it up a little bit and get some chances and get ourselves back in the game." Montoya was terrific while subbing for Ondrej Pavelec, who had started the last eight games for Winnipeg. The 28-year-old goaltender shut down the Blackhawks after an early gaffe put the Jets into a 1-0 hole. Bollig got a slick pass from Ben Smith a little more than a minute into the game and skated behind the net for a wraparound as he fell to the ice. The shot went off Montoyas stick and right pad for Bolligs sixth goal at 1:21. The Blackhawks had several opportunities to add to the lead in the first, but Montoya was there each time. They outshot the Jets 18-2 in the period. Montoya used his right pad to stop Hossa on a breakaway with 12:05 left in the first, and then stayed in after he was shaken up on the resulting collision with the streaking forward. He also made a sprawling stop on Bollig at the end of the period. It was more of the same in the second, with Montoya stopping Patrick Kane on the right side of the net. The Jets had a chance to tie it with 6 1/2 minutes left in the second, but Crawford used his right foot to kick away a shot by Bryan Little and Ladds rebound attempt went off Sheldon Brookbanks left skate. The Spurs used a balanced scoring attack and clamped down defensively late in the third quarter to claim the win.MANCHESTER, England - Manchester United heaped more misery on Liverpool by beating its great rival 3-0 in the Premier League on Sunday, earning a sixth straight win to underline the transformation in fortunes of Englands two biggest clubs.Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata — from an offside position — scored to give United a 2-0 lead at halftime and Robin van Persie added the third in the 71st minute at Old Trafford. While third-place United remained eight points behind leader Chelsea to maintain its unlikely title challenge, Liverpool is mid-table and struggling to recreate the form that took the team to a runner-up finish last season. The score was harsh on Liverpool, with United goalkeeper David de Gea producing a string of brilliant saves to deny Raheem Sterling and substitute Mario Balotelli. The visitors were also unlucky that Mata was not signalled offside when he headed home to make it 2-0 in the 40th, puncturing Liverpools bright start. They were much more clinical when they needed to be, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said. For their goalkeeper to get man of the match tells you everything. But these are worrying times for Rodgers. He is lacking a clinical finisher in the absence of the injured Daniel Sturridge, his defence is in a mess and he has doubts about his first-choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who was dropped here for Brad Jones. It ended a miserable week for Liverpool, which was eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday.Without hitting anywhere near top form, United is perhaps making the title race a three-team fight. Louis van Gaals side has no European or English League Cup commitments to clog up its schedule this season.Having spent around $250 million bolstering its squad in the last off-season, a title challenge is probably the least Uniteds fans and owners expect — although none of the summer signings even started against Liverpool. Van Gaal is gettting results with the players he inherited from David Moyes, and with a dose of fortune. fake jerseys china. Winning now six matches in a row is fantastic but we have to improve our playing style, said Van Gaal, who played Rooney in centre midfield. And I am saying that nearly every week.Six days after scraping a 2-1 win at Southampton, United took the lead in the 12th — just 25 seconds after Sterling, playing as a lone forward, was denied by De Gea in a one-on-one chance. United counter-attacked, Antonio Valencia played the ball between Joe Allens legs on the right wing and crossed for Rooney to apply a side-footed finish inside the near post.Liverpool was crisper with its passing and had more possession, but squandered a number of openings before Mata doubled the lead.Again, it was good delivery from the flanks, with Ashley Young whipping in a cross from the left that was flicked on by Van Persie for Mata to stoop and head in from close range at the far post. You need luck, but you can force the luck, Van Gaal said. We are forcing the luck and that was not the case at the start of the season.Sterling was presented with another great chance at the start of the second half after pouncing on Jonny Evans weak back-pass. The England international darted to the left of De Gea, who made up the ground to block Sterlings tame left-footed shot.De Gea then tipped Balotellis shot onto the bar in his best intervention before Van Persie made it 3-0. Dejan Lovren miscued his clearance from Rooneys cross and the ball went straight to Mata, who passed to his right for Van Persie to slot home. There was still time for De Gea to deny Balotelli again and ensure United reversed the 3-0 score from the corresponding fixture last season in March. We had enough chances to get something and it epitomized what our season has been, Rodgers said. We have nowhere near enough goals in the team. ' ' '

Garcia, who was a four-time CFL All-Star and named to four Pro Bowls in the NFL, retired from professional football in 2010. "After several discussions with (head coach) Tom (Higgins) about candidates who could potentially help our offence right now, we welcome Jeff to our organization and to the offensive coaching staff," general manger Jim Popp said in a statement. "He brings tremendous experience, great leadership, competitiveness, and the drive to be the best. We feel that by tapping into Jeffs knowledge, he will be another key addition in getting our season turned around." The announcement comes a week after the Alouettes hired CFL Hall of Fame coach Don Matthews and former NFL quarterback and offensive co-ordinator Turk Schonert as consultants. Higgins added that Garcias experience played a major role in the teams decision to sign the former pivot. "Jeff Garcia is a fierce competitor who has had success in every situation he has faced in professional football," Higgins said. "The addition of Jeff is ideal because he brings the expertise hes gained over his professional years from so many different systems. Rugby Canada announced Wednesday that the Canadian men will host Japan in an international rugby test June 7 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, B.C. The date of the matchup had already been announced but Rugby Canada did not confirm the site until Wednesday. • SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Spurs needed a pick me up after a disappointing loss and a series of injuries, and they got it Sunday night by stepping all over the Milwaukee Bucks. Stitched Tigers Jerseys . Patty Mills had 20 points, Tim Duncan had 11 points and 13 rebounds in limited action, and San Antonio rolled to a 110-82 victory over Milwaukee that kept the Bucks winless in the new year. Marco Belinelli scored 14 points, Jeff Ayres and Nando De Colo had 13 points apiece, and Kawhi Leonard added 11 points in 21 minutes for San Antonio. After hanging their heads following a 109-100 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night, the Spurs were feeling pretty good after trouncing the Bucks. "(My confidence is) going through the roof, man" Ayres said. "You dont see me out there? Im having fun, dunking on people and stuff. Its awesome. Life is good." Even San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich was in a light-hearted mood, joking about the season debut of athletic, 6-foot-9 forward Malcolm Thomas. "I thought he was real active," Popovich said. "He blocked (two) shots. You know we dont block shots; thats not part of our program . thats a joke." The merriment came at the expense of adding to Milwaukees misery. The Bucks have lost nine straight, dropping those games by an average of 15 points. Making matters worse for Milwaukee, starting off guard Luke Ridnour left the game after spraining his right wrist late in the first quarter. The wrist bent back after it was sandwiched between Mills and Ekpe Udoh as Ridnour attempted to roll off a screen. He still attempted a 19-foot jumper, but feverishly signalled for a sub as he clutched his wrist in pain. "The X-rays were negative, which is a good sign," Bucks coach Larry Drew said. "Right now it looks like hes in a splint and I dont know how long he will be out." It swelled right away, as soon as he did it and that was a big concern. I guess well go back and I believe hell get an MRI." Brandon Knight scored 21 points, Giannis Antetokounmpo added 11 points and John Henson had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Milwaukee, which trailed by double digits the entire second half. San Antonio played without starters Tony Parker and Tiago Splitter, former starter Danny Green and 3-point specialist Matt Bonner. Parker missed the game with a bruised right shin that stiffened in the second half of the Spurs loss to the Trail Blazers. "We were missing a lot of guys so that was a little worrying, but overall I think we did a good job," San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili said. "Everybody got to play and everybody played well. Guys made shots and its a good feeling." The Spurs bench scored 58 points, with only one coming from Ginobili. Duncan played only 27 minutes, sitting out the fourth quarter as San Antonio built its lead to as many as 28 points in the second half after breaking the game open early. The Spurs went on a 15-0 run bridging the first and second quarters, taking a 29-16 lead that essentially put the game out the Bucks reach. Milwaukee went scoreless for five minutes, missing six shots, committing two turnovers and an offensive foul. Hensons 20-foot jump hook with 11:18 remaining in the first half ended the drought. Mills opened the run with the first of his four 3-pointers, sinking a 25-footer with 4 minutes left in the first quarter. "They move the ball, they make the right play and they get the open shot," former Spurs guard Gary Neal said. "Patty was the recipient of good ball movement today and he was able to knock the shots down. You have to give credit where credit is due, that system has been in effect for a long time and its been successful for a long time." Even the notoriously tough Popovich was able to give his team a figurative pat on the back afterward. "Coaches are sick puppies," Popovich said. "Theres always things you can improve and do better. You look at the film, try to keep your standard and get ready for playoffs, but overall it was a good performance." NOTES: Parker received the La Gazzetta Dello Sports European Player of the Year award before the tipoff. Parker led France to its first European Championship in the off-season. . • OAKLAND, Calif. Tigers Jerseys 2019 . -- Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson didnt need to give a big speech before his struggling team faced the depleted Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night. Recalling a loss against the short-handed San Antonio Spurs the last time out was good enough. David Lee had 19 points and 10 rebounds, Andrew Bogut grabbed 20 rebounds and the Warriors shook off a slow start to rout the Lakers 102-83. "I told the guys, What we dont want to do is let any more opportunities slip," Jackson said. "And tonight, were in our building against a team that were supposed to beat in our building. And the mindset was to handle our business. "And we did that." Stephen Curry scored 18 points and Klay Thompson added 17 points to help the Warriors pull away with a 26-8 spurt to start the third quarter. Golden State (15-13) went ahead 83-70 early in the fourth to put the game out of reach. "We knew how important this game was for us," said Bogut, who also had 12 points, two blocks and an assist. "We won a game we should have won." Los Angeles had more notable names at home than at the arena. Pau Gasol sat out with an upper respiratory infection for the Lakers, who already were missing Kobe Bryant (fractured left knee), Steve Nash (nerve root irritation in back), Steve Blake (torn ligament in right elbow) and Jordan Farmar (torn left hamstring). Nick Young scored 20 points, and Chris Kaman had 17 rebounds and 10 points for the Lakers (13-14) in a sloppy game by both teams. The Lakers committed 24 turnovers, while the Warriors had 18. Golden State shot 38.8 per cent and Los Angeles shot a season-low 32.5 per cent. "They battled. We just didnt have enough," Lakers coach Mike DAntoni said. Though the Lakers were undermanned, the Warriors had failed to consistently take advantage of opportunities against short-handed teams lately. Golden State had lost three of its last four games, including Thursday night at home against a San Antonio team playing without Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. The lone win during that stretch was against New Orleans, which played without injured starters Anthony Davis and Tyreke Evans. The Lakers have been decimated even more by injuries. Los Angeles used its 12th different starting lineup this season: Xavier Henry, Jodie Meeks, Wesley Johnson, Jordan Hill and Kaman. Gasol was the only player to start the first 26 games. DAntoni was hoping Gasol would be healthy enough to play Monday at Phoenix, but the centres status remains questionable. At this point, the Lakers need anybody they can get. Los Angeles beat Minnesota on Friday night in an emotional first game since Bryant fractured his left knee, but the Warriors -- who struggled for long stretches again -- were too much to overcome on consecutive nights. Neither team led by more than six points in a forgettable first half, and both sides hovered just above 30 per cent shooting for most of the game. "It was ugly, but it was a pretty decent first half just to really stay in the game," said Johnson, who scored two points on free throws and missed all seven of his shots from the floor. Thompson hit a pair of 3-pointers, and Bogut finished an alley-oop from Curry to highlight a 26-8 run to begin the third quarter that gave Golden State a 72-50 lead. It was the ninth time in Boguts career that he had at least 20 rebounds in a game. Curry finished with nine assists and six rebounds as the Warriors went ahead 83-60 early in the fourth quarter. The only drama left had little impact on the final score. Officials called a flagrant-2 foul and ejected Marreese Speights for hitting Young around the neck from behind to prevent the Lakers reserve from a dunk. Los Angeles never got closer than 16 points in the final quarter. "We were definitely not letting our guard down tonight after what happened with San Antonio," Lee said. "Because of the poor effort we put forth against San Antonio, at this point, its more about what were doing out there than who were playing against." NOTES: The Warriors improved to 2-1 against the Lakers this season, with the home team winning each time. ... The Lakers have not lost a season series to the Warriors since 1994-95, which also was the last time Golden State won both of its home games in the season series. ... The teams meet for the final time this season on April 11 in Los Angeles. Hes the same player he always was, only now his efforts are being rewarded. The rookie manager has made a habit of heaping praise on others when things are going well, and accepting criticism when they arent. But in the case of Hurtado, its what the coach is NOT saying that may be the secret to a superb run of form.TORONTO, Ontario - The Leafs wont restart their schedule until Thursday against the New York Islanders but for Randy Carlyle, the Olympic break is now nothing but a distant memory. As far as hes concerned, its time to get back to business. "We were playing at a pretty high level and now were expecting to take the next step," said the Leafs head coach after the teams annual outdoor practice on Friday at Greenwood Park in front of several hundred fans. "Were going to have to play to a higher level to have success here in the last 22 games." That message of aspiring to a higher level of play is one that Carlyle has continually preached throughout the season, whether the team was going through a rough stretch as they did in mid-December and early January or experiencing success as they did heading into the Olympic break. Posting an 11-2-1 record in the fourteen games that preceded the break built the Leafs a seven-point cushion on the Columbus Blue Jackets, Ottawa Senators and Washington Capitals for the final playoff spot but with the Jackets holding two games in hand and the Senators and Capitals each holding one, that gap could shrink quickly if they trip up out of the gate. "It was a time to recharge the batteries but for us its about now getting our team ready for Thursday," said Carlyle. "Thats the most important thing on our plate is to make sure our hockey club picks up where it left off." Given how well the team played heading into the break, that wont be an easy task for several reasons. Firstly, a 14-game stretch that saw them win 11 times (78 per cent of their games) is likely an unsustainable pace. Seventeen wins in their final 22 games is a lot to ask. TThe key will be to make sure they dont experience too significant a drop off. Tigers Jerseys 2020. Secondly, the schedule wont be a cake walk. The Leafs will play 22 games in 45 nights, 13 of them on the road. 14 of those games will be against teams currently in playoff positions. The real test will come on a five-game road trip March 10-18 when they head out west to face the Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings before making stops in Washington and Detroit. Additionally, Toronto will face four more sets of games on back-to-back nights. Safe to say, the time for rest has come and gone. "The Olympic break for us, we feel good coming back," said Dion Phaneuf. "We feel rested, we feel rejuvenated and I think its beneficial for everyone to have that." The positive aspect of the break is that with David Bolland nearing a return and so long as James Van Riemsdyk and Phil Kessel get through the bronze medal game at the Olympics injury-free, the Leafs should be able to ice their optimal lineup for the first time this season. Believe it or not, due to suspensions and injuries, Bolland, Tyler Bozak, David Clarkson and Joffrey Lupul have yet to all be dressed in the same game. • The Vancouver Whitecaps will look to bounce back this season from the disappointment of missing the 2013 MLS Cup playoffs - and they will do so under new leadership. Rockies Jerseys 2019 . Former assistant coach, Carl Robinson, is the clubs new head coach, replacing Martin Rennie, who was removed from the post back in October. The appointment of Robinson has been received with widespread approval, despite the fact that he wasnt the clubs first choice. Former U.S. mens national team coach, Bob Bradley, was the man the Whitecaps were courting. But when that move failed to come to fruition, the club chose to appoint from within. It is an appointment that I believe will work very well for the club. Robinson has a very bright football mind and is well-respected within the league. He has an excellent rapport with young players - of whom the Whitecaps have many - and it will be his ability to get the most out of those young players that will determine how far the ‘Caps will go in 2014. While Robinson wont be afraid to utilize whatever tactical formation is best suited for each opponent, I expect he will begin the season lining up in a 1-4-2-3-1 formation, with the following players being first choice: Goalkeeper - David Ousted When David Ousted joined the club last season, many fans questioned the wisdom of adding a player in a position at which the club appeared to be reasonably solid; both Brad Knighton and Joe Cannon had played well over the course of their time in Vancouver. But Martin Rennie felt the need for an upgrade, and it is fair to say that Ousted will be expected to perform as such this season. He has had a few moments to forget in a Whitecaps jersey, but by and large, Ousted is an upgrade over the previous incumbents. His distribution is excellent, he is a good shot-stopper and is comfortable claiming crosses. Ousted is also not afraid to be vocal - something that all teams need from their ‘keeper. If Ousted performs up to his potential, expect him to play ahead of Paolo Tornaghi. Right Fullback - Steven Beitashour If you ask Carl Robinson, the Vancouver Whitecaps signed the best right fullback in Major League Soccer in the offseason - and he might just be right. Beitashour was an MLS All-Star in 2012, and he has shown that he is willing and able to get forward to provide scoring chances for his teammates. His 16 assists over the last three seasons are ample evidence. If Beitashour can carry on performing at this level for the Whitecaps, the problem of replacing the retired Lee Young-Pyo wont be much of a problem at all. Left Fullback - Jordan Harvey When the Whitecaps traded Alain Rochat to DC United last season - for an undisclosed amount of allocation money - the fans were up in arms. Rochat was a popular player, and fans felt that Harvey would be unable to fill his shoes. Harvey responded by putting in the best season of his career. His four goals over the course of the season tripled his career production to date, and went some way to alleviating the fans concerns over the solidity of the left fullback position. Academy graduate, Sam Adekugbe, is one to watch for the future, but to start the season, the left back position is Harveys to lose. Central Defender - Jay DeMerit The Vancouver Whitecaps first-ever signing, Jay DeMerit has, in many ways, become the face of the club. In fact, one could argue that he and his wife, Olympic gold-medallist Ashleigh McIvor, are the poster couple of Vancouver sports. Publicity aside, it will be DeMerits play on the field that is most important. He showed tremendous attitude and work rate to come back from a torn Achilles tendon last season, and put in some solid defensive performances towards the end of the year. He set the standard with those performances, and if he is to stay in the team, he will need to match that standard. Dont expect DeMerit to dribble the ball into midfield or play 60-yard cross-field passes - that isnt what he does best. What he does do is lead by example; he puts his body on the line week in, week out, and what he lacks in technical savvy he makes up for in tenacity. Central Defender - Andy OBrien Some fans were surprised that the Whitecaps re-signed Andy OBrien last season - but I wasnt. OBrien is quiet and soft-spoken off the field, but once he crosses the white line, he adopts a much different demeanor. He organizes and commands the back four, and along with DeMerit, leads by example. His experience playing at the highest level in England is evident, as he reads the game well and sees dangerous situations before they develop. The only concern with OBrien - and the same concern applies to DeMerit - is that he can remain healthy, given that he is on the wrong side of 30. If either DeMerit of OBrien go down with injury, expect Jonny Leveron and Carlisle Mitchell to be able deputies. Defensive Midfielder - Nigel Reo-Coker When he joined the Whitecaps last season, Nigel Reo-Coker put in some outstanding performances. It was to be expected, given the level at which he has played throughout his career in England. Reo-Coker is outspoken and demands the very highest of himself and of his teammates. When those standards are not met, he can become frustrated. If Robinson is to get the best out of Reo-Coker, he will need to keep his midfield general in a good frame of mind - focused on the job at hand, not concerned with distractions in other areas of the team. Reo-Coker can be the driving force in the middle of the park for Vancouver. If he has a strong campaign, the Whitecaps will be successful. Defensive Midfielder - Matias Laba As soon as Michael Bradley became available, it was inevitable that Toronto FC would have to move Matias Laba. Its a real shame for TFC, because I rate Laba very highly. At times last year, he was a man playing alongside boys in Toronto. He has a very bright football brain, and he reads the game really well. Alongside Reo-Coker, the Whitecaps could very well have the strongest pair of central midfielders in MLS - the box-to-box power of Reo-Coker complimenting the positional discipline and tenacity of Laba. Because he doesnt play a glamorous position, Laba will not get the credit he deserves for his play. But those in the know will see the value in the little things that Laba does so well. Right Midfield - Russell Teibert This is a very important year for Russell Teibert. He is currently out of favour with the Canadian mens national team, and the only way for him to work his way back into Benito Floros plans is to play so well for his club team that leaving him out is not an option. To do that, Teibert needs to produce - goals and assists, to be precise. He isnt going to supplant either Reo-Coker or Laba as a defensive midfielder, a position he played during pre-season. He isnt going to supplant newly signed designated player, Pedro Morales, as an attacking midfielder, either. So if Teibert is going to stay in the team, he needs to make the right midfield position his own. He has plenty of good qualities; he is technically sound, has a great left foot and is the fittest member of the Whitecaps squad. But his biggest asset is that he wants to learn. He latched onto Nigel Reo-Coker when the Englishman joined the club last season, and has tried to soak up as much football knowledge as he could. If Teibert doesnt perform, expect Kekuta Manneh to be given a run in the team. You will see plenty of Manneh this season, but I think Robinson is smart enough to know that the youngster needs time to continue his development, and cannot be rushed into a starting role. Left Midfield - Sebastian Fernandez One of two Uruguayans to join the club in the offseason, Fernandez looks to be a very exciting option for the Whitecaps, in either of the wide midfield positions. Fernandez is comfortable with a ball at his feet, has strong technical qualities and has provided a creative influence for the team down the left flank during preseason. If he can develop an understanding with Pedro Morales, the Whitecaps will have the attacking midfield threat that has been lacking for the last three seasons. There will be a period of adaptation for Fernandez - and this applies to Nicolas Mezquida and Pedro Morales as well - to the rigours of MLS. The travel and varying playing conditions, not to mention the physicality of the league, will require that he be adaptable. If he can do this, his technical ability will have a chance to shine. Attacking Midfield - Pedro Morales The Whitecaps have been in desperate need of a genuine attacking midfielder since they joined Major League Soccer. Not since Davide Chiumiento have the club had a player that could even remotely be called a ‘number 10. Pedro Morales will be that player. Morales has spent the last year playing for Malaga in Spains La Liga, and he has two goals in 11 international appearances for Chile. His touch is exquisite, his passing range and vision is superb, and he is not afraid to shoot from distance. He will be expected to slot into the Whitecaps midfield almost immediately, and will be relied upon to dictate play when Vancouver is in possession of the ball, to create scoring chances and to score goals himself. Forward - Darren Mattocks Carl Robinson has a big challenge on his hands - to turn Darren Mattocks into the player that Darren Mattocks thinks he is. The young Jamaican has a very high opinion of himself as a player - he said so himself in an off-season interview on Jamaican television. Mattocks has so much to learn about the game tactically, though, and Robinson and his coaching staff will have their hands full trying to develop that aspect of Mattocks game. It will be doubly difficult if they cannot get Mattocks head out of the clouds. It is a real test of the new head coachs man-management abilities. Succeed, and the Whitecaps will have a fearsome striker on their hands. Fail, and Darren Mattocks will be just another player who failed to live up to his potential. If Mattocks struggles, the Whitecaps have options. The experienced Kenny Miller will be desperate to impress and earn an extension to his contract, and Kekuta Manneh is always a threat up front or out wide coming off the bench. The Vancouver Whitecaps are a young, dynamic team who have added some South American quality in Laba, Morales, Fernandez and Mezquida. Their squad is deeper and more talented than the one that began the 2013 MLS season, and if Carl Robinson can get the young players to be consistent, the Whitecaps will surprise many people this season. • SAN DIEGO -- The Padres are on a roll, proving how quick momentum can flip in baseball. Zylan Cheatham Pelicans Jersey . Will Venable homered and San Diego beat the Miami Marlins 5-4 on Sunday for their first three-game winning streak of the season. This run comes on the heels of Thursdays extra-inning loss, when second baseman Jedd Gyorkos error led to Giancarlo Stantons home run and a deflating defeat. Now the Padres hit the road packing along some confidence. "Its a much better vibe, theres less tension in the clubhouse and in the dugout," Padres manager Bud Black said. "When you dont score theres tension. And its been released a little bit and the guys are playing a little more relaxed. That is what winning does. When you dont score, things get a little tight." The surging Padres offence, which has scored 24 runs in the three games, also got two hits and two RBIs from Chris Denorfia. Robbie Erlin (2-4) scattered five hits in 6 1-3 scoreless innings before giving way to three Padres relievers. Huston Street pitched around a hit and two walks in the ninth to earn his 11th save. Street handled the middle of the Marlins order, Stanton and Casey McGehee with caution. He didnt mind putting them on when they didnt offer at border line pitches early in their counts. "I saw (Jeff) Baker in the hole and while he swung the bat well in series, I felt like once the bases were loaded I got to start attacking," Street said. "You know how you feel and youve seen how guys are hitting and when I fell behind those guys in middle of lineup, you feel like you dont want to give them anything to hit, especially Stanton." Street retired Baker on a fielders choice. "Got to be a little crisis at the end but Huston has proven over the years how to work his way through an inning, how to get an out," Black said. "He always knows whos on deck, whos in the hole and as the inning proceeds, what he has to get done and that is always a good sign of a good closer." Stanton understood. "He wasnt going to give me something to hit a homer and go up in the game," he said. "So he was either going to take the corners and if I didnt bite, he was going to let (McGehee) take over." Erlin handed his game over to the bullpen and was rewarded. He had lost four straight decisions before beating the Marlins in his first appearance against them. But it was his second consecutive strong showing after a seven-inning, one-run outing versus the Royals. The Padres pitchers struck out 48 over the four-game series to set a franchise record. They broke their mark of 44 set in 1998 against Montreal. Miamis Henderson Alvarez (2-3), who was coming off his second shutout of the season and third in his last eight starts, wasnt sharp. He lasted four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. "He didnt have a good feel for his sinker today and that is his bread and butter," catcher Jeff Mathis said. "Without his sinker today we were doing what we could do throw the ball over the plate." Venable hit his franchise-best 10th career leadoff homer. His 400-foot blast off a 1-0 fastball over the right-field wall was his first home run of the year. Almost all the WTAs top 20 players are in Wuhan, with the notable exception of hometown player Li Na, who announced her retirement last Friday. The strength of the field and the more than $2 million on offer in prize money reflect the importance the womens tour continues to place on the booming Asian tennis market. Wuhan is one of three new WTA-level tournaments added in China this year, along with Hong Kong and Tianjin. The newcomers bring the total number of tournaments in China to six -- behind only the United States, which has eight. The season-ending WTA Championship was also moved this year to Singapore through 2018. All the additions mean that the elite players are spending a considerable amount of time in Asia in coming months. Maria Sharapova, who was due to play her opening match later Monday against fellow Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, credited the success of two-time major winner Li and her massive appeal in China for the WTAs push into Asia. I think she was one of the biggest reasons why there is such an international tournament in Wuhan. She brought all of us here, so I think its a little extra sad that she wont be participating this year, Sharapova said. ' ' '

Kazakhstan champion Shakhter Karagandy stunned Scottish club Celtic 2-0, Real Sociedad won at Lyon by the same score and Viktoria Plzen beat Maribor 3-1 in the Czech Republic. A further 10 clubs are in action on Wednesday as they chase a spot in the lucrative 32-team group stage, which starts in September. Zenit can already start glancing ahead to the draw in Monaco later this month. Shirokov, the Russia midfielder, took 27 minutes to find the net in Portugal, striking into the bottom of the net from Dannys cross. Although Andre Leone volleyed Pacos Ferreira level in the 58th, Shirokov was on target again from close range at the back post two minutes later to restore Zenits lead. After Aleksandr Kerzhakovs free kick went off the crossbar and in off goalkeeper Matias Degra in the 85th, Shirokov completed his hat trick in style in the 90th, blasting the ball into the top right corner. It was a far tighter encounter in the Netherlands as Milan and PSV played out the nights only draw. PSV gifted Milan possession for the opener, with Ignazio Abate seizing the ball from Memphis Depay before whipping in a cross that El Shaarawy met with a free header. But the 1988 European Cup winner levelled on the hour, with Jeffrey Bruma unleashing a dipping, swerving shot that goalkeeper Christian Abbiati spilled, and Matavz was alert to pounce and send a downward header into the net. In Astana, Shakhter Karagandy closed in on a spot in the group stage for the first time with its victory over Celtic, the Scottish champion which beat Barcelona on its run to the Champions League last-16 last season. Andrei Finonchenko put the hosts ahead after seizing on slack defending in the 12th minute, and Sergei Khizhnichenko headed in another in the 77th in Astana. Celtic had come close to equalizing in the 19th when Kris Commons hit the crossbar with a powerful strike that bounced down close to the line. Obviously I was a little too far out on the Toews one, I wanted to get the leg out, and then Kane has a great set of hands. You never know what he is going to do.Chicago had to work to get the best of the 25-year old Kinkaid, who was called up from Albany earlier Tuesday with the Devils playing the second game of a back-to-back set.New Jersey had the better of play for almost the first 25 minutes before the Blackhawks started showing why they are one of the NHLs top teams.Early on, he was playing pretty well, Toews said of Kinkaid. We threw some shots at him and I think, if anything, we built his confidence up a little bit throughout the game. Nowadays, even backups are strong, and you have to make their job as tough as you can.Bryan Bickell and Duncan Keith had goals in regulation for Chicago, whose winning streak matches the NHL high for this season. Scott Darling made 22 saves, including two stops in the shootout.Jordin Tootoo and Stephen Gionta scored for New Jersey. Steve Bernier added two assists for the Devils, who were trying for back to back wins for the first time in almost a month.Darling made a glove save on Martin Havlat to start the shootout, and Toews easily beat Kinkaid with a backhander. After Darling made a pad save on Jaromir Jagr, Kane skated in on Kinkaid, danced in front of him, and slid the puck into the net for the Blackhawks fourth win in four shootouts. You want to get the win for the team, so its a little tough, Kinkaid said. I hate the shootout anyway, so they aare big points, and we are fortunate to get one. Cheap Giants Jerseys. Chicago had tied it with 3:13 left in regulation when defenceman Duncan Keith put the rebound of Marian Hossas shot into an open net. The play developed after the Blackhawks kept the puck in the Devils zone, and Toews found Hossa for a good shot in close.Give him some credit, Keith said of Kinkaid. He played big for his first game. We just played a patient game. I dont think it was our best game, but we hung in there until the end and we were able to do it in the shootout. It appeared that Stephen Giontas goal on a baseball swing at 2:31 of the third period was going to be the winner.Defenceman Damon Severson took a shot from the right point that Darling stopped. Blackhawks defenceman Klas Dahlbeck used his glove to swat the rebound away, but Gionta lined it right into the net.Havlat nearly gave the Devils a two-goal lead later in the period but his breakaway drive hit off the post and crossbar with 9:30 left.Kinkaid had stopped Patrick Sharp on a breakaway just about 30 seconds before Giontas second goal of the season.Chicago was a little off its game in the first period, but it dominated the second, outshooting New Jersey 17-7. Bickell got the only goal with a shot from the right circle after he carried the puck into the Devils zone leading a 3-on-1 break.Sharp, playing for the first time since Nov. 4 because of a lower-body injury, got the only assist on the play set up by a Devils turnover.New Jerseys goal also was the result of a turnover. • ORLANDO, Fla. Custom Seattle Mariners Jerseys . -- The Orlando Magic have made no secret that the future of their franchise will depend on how well they can develop their young players. Rookie Victor Oladipo is a key cog in that group and provided a glimpse of what team officials hope that future will look like. Arron Afflalo scored 32 points and Oladipo had 30 points, a career-high 14 assists and nine rebounds as the Magic rallied to beat the New York Knicks 129-121 in double overtime on Friday night. The Magic trailed by as many as 14 points, but got 25 points and 10 assists from Oladipo after halftime to stave off the Knicks. Tobias Harris added 22 points. "Every game I control one thing -- my energy that I bring to both ends of the floor," Oladipo said. "Im just trying to do that every game, whether its a good game or a bad game." Orlando snapped a three-game losing streak in its first game following the departure of Glen Davis, who had the remainder of his contract bought out earlier in the day. Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said he thought Oladipo played a complete game. The rookie logged a team-high 49 minutes. "He got what he wanted to on both ends of the floor," Vaughn said. "On the offensive end, in a lot of different places we kind of let him go and it was his decision to make." Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 44 points, but only 14 came after the third quarter. The Knicks loss ended their eight-game win streak over the Magic. It was also the latest head-scratching loss for a New York team that has last four of its last five and is yet to post back-to-back wins this month. "Every game right now is important," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said. "They made the run at the start of the fourth and we couldnt get it back. Its a tough loss." Afflalo found Oladipo for a layup to put the Magic in front 117-113 in the second overtime. But Afflalo injured his right ankle in the process by stepping on Raymond Feltons foot and didnt return. He will be evaluated before the teams upcoming four-game road trip. Orlando was dealt another blow on the Knicks next possession when centre Nik Vucevic was whistled for his sixth foul. Anthony then hit a pair of free-throws to get New York back within a basket. Oladipo answered, getting fouled when he fought past Tim Hardaway Jr. for a layup. He completed the three-point play to push the lead back to 120-115. The Knicks got it back to a point before another three-point play by Oladipo made it 125-121 with 30.7 seconds left. Felton had a 3-pointer rattle out on the other end, forcing the Knicks to foul and Orlando sealed the win at the free throw line. "It is just another game that I feel that we gave away," Anthony said. "We were up and had a comfortable lead. They fought back and never quit." Felton hit back-to-back jumpers to put New York up 113-111 with less than three minutes to play in the first overtime. Oladipo quickly countered on the other end with a driving layup before Felton sprinted ahead and found Tyson Chandler for a reverse slam. But the ball bounced off Chandlers head and popped up and out of the basket. Chandler was called for offensive interference and the basket was waved off. The Magic got the ball, but Afflalos pass was knocked away by Chandler and prompting a Knicks timeout with 41.6 remaining. Anthony briefly got open in the lane, but could only get off a leaning 16-footer that hit the rim and was rebounded by the Magic, who called their own timeout with 8 seconds left. Orlando got up several shots at the rim, but Vucevics final tip attempt fell short. The Knicks led by as many as 14 in the third quarter before the Magic trimmed it to 86-83 in the opening minutes of the fourth. Afflalo sent it to overtime when he hit a step-back jumper with 42.9 seconds left to tie it 106-all. As solid as his performance was, Oladipo said hes not satisfied. "Theres so much room for improvement. I can get so much better," he said. "I really feel like I havent scratched the surface of how good Im going to be. I honestly believe that." NOTES: The Magic improved to 1-4 in overtime games this season. ... J.R. Smith made his 12th start of the season in place of injured swingman Iman Shumpert, who is expected to miss about two weeks with a sprained ligament in his left knee. ... You do get confidence from victories but you find out how to be better after a loss. Things get put through the magnifying glass.Weve had two weeks preparation to put things right. It would have been better for the club and our supporters to have been at home but having that defeat has really sharpened our focus ahead of this weekend. Our preparation has been better than normal because the team we just lost to and who we want to put a few things right against is who we play in the next game.We will learn from where we could be better and try to get our strengths out.But whether you are home or away, these games are always going to be tough. TUCSON, Ariz. Wholesale Adidas Nmd Mens . -- If this was Aaron Gordons final home game at Arizona, and it almost certainly was, then he went out in style. And took the Pac-12 regular-season championship trophy with him. Gordon, expected to turn pro after a one-and-done freshman season, scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to help the No. 3 Wildcats clinch the conference title with a 79-66 victory over Stanford on Sunday night. "It feels good," Gordon said, "but its not the final stop on our destination." The Wildcats (27-2, 14-2), who won by just three at Stanford a month ago, completed an unbeaten home season in what also could have been the final McKale Center game for two other players: junior Nick Johnson and freshman Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. T.J. McConnell scored 14 points, Gabe York 12, Johnson 11 and Kaleb Tarczewski 10 for Arizona. After the game, the team was presented the championship trophy and cut down the net. When Gordon got his turn, the crowd chanted "three more years!" With Johnson, it was "one more year!" Then coach Sean Miller spoke briefly to the crowd. "The season is far from over," he said. "Lets hope this is the beginning of a long, long run." Miller, who has brought in one standout recruiting class after another, knows all too well how short college careers are for the games best players. "The agreement that we have right now is to focus on the task at hand," he said. "Part of whats going to help these guys get what they want individually is to be on a spectacular team. Todays Pac-12 championship is part of that path." He said that once the dust has settled this spring, he will sit down with the players and their families to map out the future. "What I hope is that anybody who would ever leave early would never be a second-round pick," Miller said. "Thats a devastating blow to the next 50 years of their life." Josh Huestis matched his career high with 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Stanford (18-10, 9-7). Anthony Brown added 14 points and Chasson Randle and Dwight Powell had 12 apiece for the Cardinal, who trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half and 25 in the second. "They had a great environment and they played very well," Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins said. "They got off to a fast start and were able to maintain that throughout the game." After struggling following the season-ending injury to Brandon Ashley, Arizona has won in impressive fashion in one-sided games against Colorado, California and Stanford. "Were clicking on all cylinders right now," Johnson said. "We want to go down in Arizona history as one of the best teams ever." The difference has been when the Wildcats have the ball. "Weve been a very consistent, dominant defensive team," Miller said. "Our offence is catching up." The Wildcats scored the first four points of the game and never trailed. After consecutive dunks by Gordon, Hollis-Jefferson made one of two free throws to make it 13-4. Powells inside basket sliced the lead to 14-11, but Stanford never got that close again. Elliott Pitts 3-pointer started a 9-2 spurt that put Arizona ahead 23-13 when Johnson scored on a drive. Randle scored on a runner to cut it to 23-17, but Johnson sank a 3-pointer, then blocked Randles shot at the other end. That led to Gordons fast-break basket on a pass from Hollis-Jefferson, and it was 28-17. McConnells 14-footer in the lane followed by a pair of free throws from Matt Korcheck gave Arizona its biggest lead of the half, 41-23, with 1:27 to go. Randle scored the final five points of the half on a 16-footer and a 3-pointer from the corner, cutting it to 41-28 at the break. Browns basket reduced the margin to 43-32 with 18:06 left but he missed the free throw for what would have been a three-point play. Tarczewskis three-point play, on Stefan Nastics fourth foul, put Arizona up 48-32 with 17:14 left. Nastic fouled out with 8:47 to go. Yorks three 3s in a 2-minute span helped Arizona take its biggest lead, 68-43, on Hollis-Jeffersons basket 10:08 from the finish. The Cardinal made it respectable with a 19-5 run that cut it to 73-62 on Huestis stuff with 2:45 left. Jordin Mayes, Arizonas only senior, started in what was his 127th game with the Wildcats. • (SportsNetwork. Bert Blyleven Jersey .com) - The Detroit Pistons will take a four-game winning streak back home Sunday night when the Sacramento Kings visit The Palace of Auburn Hills. The Pistons swept a three-game road trip against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic and New York Knicks. The run started with a home victory over the Indiana Pacers. All four victories have come by double figures and an average margin of victory of 18 points. Its no coincidence that the Pistons are undefeated since the abrupt and somewhat surprising release of Josh Smith with two-plus years and $25-plus million left on his deal. On Friday, Brandon Jennings had 16 of his 29 points in the third quarter and the Pistons routed the Knicks, 97-81. I just wanted to open up the game in the third quarter and give us a comfortable lead, Jennings said. Andre Drummond ripped down 20 rebounds, Greg Monroe posted 12 points and 10 boards and Jodie Meeks netted 15 points off the bench for the Pistons, who had lost four straight prior to their current winning streak. The Pistons hit the road immediately for tilts with the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks. The Kings have gone in a bad direction since firing head coach Mike Malone. They were 2-6 until a three-point victory on New Years Day over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Darren Collison and Rudy Gay each scored 21 points to lead the Kings to a 110-107 win over the Timberwolves on Thursday. DeMarcus Cousins had 19 points with seven rebounds before fouling out, and Derrick Williams added 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting in the win. Ben McLemore added 14 as all five Sacramento starters scored in double figures, but the bench only provided 18 points. Sacramento snapped a six-game losing skid on the road. To get a win under our belts especially after the game yesterday is good to see, said Kings coach Tyrone Corbin, who had the interim tag removed from his job title this week. The Kings shot 54.1 percent from the field and outrebounded the T-wolves, 42-38. The Kings return to Sacramento following Sundays contest for six straight. HBI 1: It’s a Mac or Jack debate If there were any questions about the race for No. 1 in the 2015 Draft being a two-man battle, they should have evaporated. Nobody has been more impressive than Jack Eichel so far in the tournament. For the likes of Edmonton and Carolina, the draft decision should be a Mac or Jack debate and not a Connor coronation. HBI 2: Canadian goaltending faces test Canadian goalies have yet to allow a goal (on only 29 shots against), but the rubber hits the road (or goalie) when Canada faces Finland which is more dangerous than two goals in two games would suggest. Dan Otero Jersey. Zach Fucale allowed four goals on 22 shots vs. Finland in a semifinal loss last year. He gets a chance to avenge that loss today. HBI 3: Competitive gaps remain Four different countries have won gold four consecutive years for the second time in tournament history, but the gap between top and bottom end teams remains large. Five of 10 games have featured differences of at least four goals, including a 5-1 Swedish win over Denmark and 7-0 Russian rout of Switzerland. ' ' '

CLEVELAND -- Corey Kluber allowed four runs in six innings, and Nick Swisher hit a two-run homer in the fifth, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 7-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night. Fake Soccer Jerseys For Sale . Kluber (9-6), left off the AL All-Star team despite a strong first half, wasnt his usual dominant self but pitched well enough to win. The right-hander has won three of his last four decisions. Cody Allen struck out the side in the ninth for his 11th save. Swishers homer off Hector Noesi (3-7) to centre field broke a 4-4 tie. David Murphy also homered for Cleveland, his first since May 21. Before Swishers home run, the biggest cheer from the crowd of 24,652 came when the Indians put a message on the scoreboard welcoming home NBA superstar LeBron James, who announced he was returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Chants of "LBJ" were heard later in the game. Adam Dunn hit a leadoff homer in the fifth for Chicago, which has lost three straight. The Indians were helped by an overturned call on a replay in the fifth. Asdrubal Cabrera was originally called out trying to steal second, but manager Terry Francona challenged the call, and Cabrera was ruled safe after a review. Lonnie Chisenhalls single tied it before Swisher homered to centre. Francona and a trainer visited Kluber in the fourth after he backed up the plate, but he remained in the game. Kluber struck out five, walked two and gave up eight hits. Kluber was among the players in an online vote for the final spot on the All-Star team. The Indians massive marketing campaign for Kluber fell short, but he enters the break with a 3.01 ERA and is fourth in the AL with 142 strikeouts. Adrian Nietos RBI double and Leury Garcias run-scoring grounder in the second put Chicago in front. Murphys two-run homer tied it in the bottom of the inning. Adam Eatons RBI double in the fourth made it 3-2, but the Indians quickly tied it when Chris Dickerson drew a bases-loaded walk. Kluber retired the first batter in the second, but the next three reached base. Conor Gillaspie doubled, took third on a single and scored on Nietos double to left. Garcias grounder made it 2-0. Swisher singled with one out in the second, and Murphy homered to right, Eatons double to left-centre scored Garcia from first base in the fourth. Dunn homered to dead centre field, the 454th shot of his career. Noesi allowed six runs in 4 2-3 innings. White Sox All-Star Jose Abreu, who leads the majors with 28 homers, was 1 for 4 with a third-inning single. Carlos Santana had an RBI double in the seventh for Cleveland. NOTES: White Sox 2B Gordon Beckham, 1 for 30 in his last seven games, was given the night off. Beckham has been the subject of trade talks. "When you hear trade rumours, it can bother people enough to make it a distraction," manager Robin Ventura said. "It seems like Gordon needed a break." ... Cleveland optioned LHP T.J. There are some early surprises in the race for the Hart Trophy, but two of the contenders are the leagues biggest stars over the past decade. There are many more players in contention for the awards than just the three that Ive named, and a good or bad week can easily alter the landscape, but through the first 20 or so games of the NHL season, this is how the awards races look to me.The Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats have not met in an East Division Final since 1986. While that may seem like an eternity, and by CFL standards it is, this battle harkens back to a battlefield of an era that predates this rivalry by several centuries - Ancient Greece. The Argonauts name can be traced back to the Toronto rowing club that adopted that moniker in 1872. It honours the Greek mythological tale of Jason and the Argonauts quest for the Golden Fleece. So how do the Ticats fit into this epic tale? When a team employs an offence that features two different quarterbacks, it has been known to opponents as a two-headed monster. That evokes the Greek mythological creature the Hydra, which had several heads. If one was cut off, another one would immediately grow in its place. The Argonauts vs the Hydra. A super bout for the ages. For the Ticats of current day, Henry Burris gets most of the snaps at quarterback during the course of a game. Dan Lefevour is not only the short yardage QB, but takes over when head coach Kent Austin believes that an offensive play or series that features his strengths is called for. So do the Argos have to change their defensive scheme for Hamiltons multi-headed offence? "Not at all," all-star middle linebacker Robert McCune told TSN.ca. "Were still going to run our defence. When Lefevour comes in, we have a good idea that its maybe a run or some kind of short yardage pass, but Henry can run the ball too, so we have to prepare for both of them." Safety Matt Black had very kind words for the short-yardage specialist. "Lefevour is a great quarterback," said the Toronto native. "You saw what he did at the end of (Sundays) game. Hes a powerful runner and can get the tough yards." Lefevour basically runs a wildcat offence. Black says that the key to stopping it is simple. "Be disciplined," continued the first-year starter. "If your job is to capture the edge, then you have to capture the edge. If your job is to cover the tight end, then you have to cover the tight end. The moment you start getting nosey and peeking is the moment hell pull it or theyll run a trick play and hurt you on it." In theory, it sounds like a great offence to run, unless of course you talk to the starting quarterback. While Burris hasnt been complaining about the rotation, most quarterbacks will tell you they play better when theyre allowed to get into a rhythm, something that Burris certainly wasnt able to do against the Alouettes in the East Semifinal. Argos head coach Scott Milanoovich, a former star NCAA quarterback who played pro in the CFL, NFL, XFL, AFL and NFL Europe, was hesitant to speak specifically about the Ticats situation, but ended up doing so anyway. Wholesale Soccer Jerseys Authentic. "My personal experience would be that any quarterback is going to tell you the same thing; that theyd rather be out there for every play," said Milanovich after Wednesdays practice. "I assume Henry would say the same thing, but theres been a period of time this year where wed put Zach (Collaros) in on second-and-three, second-and-four, maybe not for an extended period of time like theyre doing, but most quarterbacks generally dont want to come off the field, so I dont know that Henry would feel any different (laughs)." Argos quarterback Ricky Ray has never been a part of an offence that rotates its pivots the way the Ticats do. Early in his Edmonton days, the QB with the hot hand would be the starter, but they didnt rotate as often as Hamilton does. Would Ray find the situation difficult? "I havent had a lot of experience coming out and then going back in," said the East Division nominee for Most Outstanding Player. "You just have to make the best of it. Theres nothing you can really do about it, you just try to stay in it mentally when youre not out there. The biggest thing is just trying to stay loose, staying warm and being able to go back in." So while not ideal for quarterbacks, Hamilton has proven that the two-headed monster can be a dangerous opponent to contend with. How do the Argos slay the beast on Sunday? Toronto rookie linebacker/rush end Shane Horton has the perfect man for the job. "No question, its Vader." Huh? "Vader has the force like nobody else." It should be noted that Horton is a fanatic about the Star Wars series. He wears a Darth Vader tee shirt under his uniform on game days and his Twitter handle is @Darth_ShaneO So how would the Sith Lord defeat the mythological creature? "Hed just give him a force choke with two hands instead of one." Is that what Horton plans to do against the Ticats? "No, no 15-yard penalties. Im going to go below the helmet." In the legend it was Heracles, not Darth Vader, that slayed the Hydra. The Argos are hoping to channel their inner Greek hero on Sunday. Mike Hogan is the radio play-by-play voice of the Toronto Argonauts on TSN 1050 radio. You can hear the broadcast on TSN 1050 in Toronto or online at TSN1050.ca beginning with a one hour pre-game show at noon eastern time, followed by the kickoff at 1pm. ' ' '

  • RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- With its superstars aging and its loyal coach slow to blend in young talent, Spains glorious reign as the superpower of world football was bound to end. Air Max 97 Mens Nz . The Spanish werent favoured to repeat as World Cup champions. But few expected the utter collapse that ended Wednesday with a 2-0 loss Chile, knocking Spain from contention and ending the run of the greatest team of the century. Chiles pace and skill produced a dominating win similar to so many Spanish victories over the past six years. Spain was outplayed, out-run and out-fought. The 5-1 beating by the Netherlands Friday was shocking and foretold where coach Vicente del Bosques team was heading: Home. "If you think about everything accomplished, and you told me we would be eliminated in group stage, I wouldnt believe you," del Bosque said. "We have no excuses. Its a sad day for all of the players." Six of Spains squad has played at least 100 national team games while winning the 2010 World Cup and the European Championships in 2008 and 2012. "Success is not eternal," said Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli, whose hyperactive energy around the dugout was shared by his team. "This generation could not continue with that success and you can understand it." "Its very special the fact we were able to play today against the World Cup champions the way we did," Sampaoli said, and "eliminate them with courage, intensity and attack." Del Bosque acknowledged that his players were "too slow, timid from the start." Chile twice came close to scoring in the first 90 seconds, and led in the 20th minute when Eduardo Vargas finished a slick move of incisive passing that was truly Spanish in its execution. The second followed in the 43th when Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas punched a free kick to the feet of Charles Aranguiz, who fired a rising shot right back past the veteran captain, who took much of the blame for the loss to the Netherlands. "I only ask fans for forgiveness, we did everything we could," said Casillas. The 33-year-old came to the World Cup after a second straight season as second-choice goalkeeper at Real Madrid and a glaring error in its Champions League final win last month. Spain came to Brazil with a very similar -- but older -- team to the 2010 squad. They added Brazilian-born striker Diego Costa, but he failed to score and was substituted in both matches. Spains "tiki-taka" style of play -- keeping the ball for long stretches with short passes, and only shooting when you had a clear opening -- had not been working as well in recent years. Brazil defeated Spain 3-0 in last summers Confederations Cup final, a warm-up for the World Cup. Spain became the third straight European defending World Cup champion to flop in the group stage. France in 2002 and Italy four years ago also failed to advance, or even win a match. Spain can at least end that streak in a consolation game Monday against Australia. Chile and the Netherlands will play to decide the Group B winner. Both will advance to the final 16 knockout round, but the winner will be seeded higher. Xabi Alonso, another Spanish veteran, will likely not start against Australia. He was replaced with 22-year-old Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke after an agonizing first half. Alonso gave away the ball to Alexis Sanchez to start the move down Chiles right wing by Arturo Vidal and Aranguiz, leading to Vargas score. Trailing behind the play, Alonso put his hands to his head. He was booked before conceding another foul, forcing a free-kick that led to the second goal. And his usual accurate passing was off. Other Spanish players were also guilty of wayward passing and woeful finishing. Early in the second half, potential momentum shifts were lost when Diego Costa was slow on Andres Iniestas threaded pass and Sergio Busquets volleyed wide in front of goal. "We didnt do anything different to what we did in South Africa or the two Euros," said forward Fernando Torres, ineffective as a second-half substitute. "We came with the same mentality, approaching the games the same way." Perhaps the Euro 2012 final was the high point of the era: A 4-0 dismantling of Italy on a similarly balmy evening in Kyiv, Ukraine. Then, the team was joined in locker-room celebrations by Crown Prince Felipe. He could not be in Rio de Janeiro. One hour after the match ended in the Maracana, at midnight in Madrid, he formally became king upon the abdication of his father, Juan Carlos. On Thursday, Spain will wake up to a new king, but no longer rulers of world football. Nike Air Max 98 Nz . ATLANTA -- Arizona manager Kirk Gibson was glad to leave town after a lost weekend at Turner Field. "They outpitched us, they outhit us and they just outplayed us," Gibson said. "Theyd been struggling, but they turned it around. Theyve played well at home." Trevor Cahill gave up home runs to Freddie Freeman, Dan Uggla and Brian McCann, and the Diamondbacks lost 6-2 Sunday as the Atlanta Braves completed a three-game sweep. Cahill (3-10) allowed six runs and seven hits in 4 1-3 innings as the NL West-leading Diamondbacks lost for the fifth time in six games. Cahill is 0-6 with a 7.91 ERA in eight starts since a May 17 win at Miami, but hes received only nine runs of support in his last eight games. The Diamondbacks went 3 for 21 with runners in scoring position over the weekend. Cahills rough outing marked the 22nd straight game without a win from the Diamondbacks rotation -- the longest streak in the majors since San Diego went 25 in a row from April 17-May 14, 2009, according to STATS. "I dont know what to say," Cahill said. "Its embarrassing. Were a team thats in first place, and I want to do my part to contribute. Its just not working out." Paul Maholm (9-6) gave up two runs and eight hits in 6 2-3 innings for the Braves, who lead the NL East by 6 1/2 games and improved to a big league-best 28-11 at home. The first of Paul Goldschmidts two run-scoring, double-play grounders put Arizona ahead in the first, but McCann tied the score in the second with an opposite-field homer that bounced off the top of the wall in left-centre. Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez was grateful to get through the weekend without any damage from Goldschmidt, who leads the NL with 67 RBIs but went 1 for 9 and stranded four runners in the series. "We did a nice job of minimizing the damage, pitching around him a little bit and getting him out," Gonzalez said. "Hes a hell of a player and having a grreat year, so we did a nice job of handling him. Air Max 97 Plus Nz. " Freemans three-run homer made it 4-1 in the third, and Uggla added a two-run drive in the fifth, his 14th home run of the season, for a 6-1 lead. Maholm laboured in the seventh, giving up consecutive singles to Cody Ross and Gerardo Parra and a one-out walk to Cliff Pennington. Maholm struck out pinch-hitter Jason Kubel, and Anthony Varvaro relieved and retired A.J. Pollock on a flyout. Kubel began the game with a .417 average in 12 career at-bats against Maholm. "Hes done well against me, and its probably my last hitter," Maholm said. "I just tried to mix it up and dropped my arm angle on two of the pitches, but its left-on-left and I have all the confidence in getting a guy out." Gibson didnt have immediate answers for why his club is struggling on a trip that continues Monday with the opener of a four-game series at the New York Mets. "Its no one individual," Gibson said. "Its me, its the coaching staff, the players. Were just not clicking very good right now. Weve got to find a way to get it turned around. Its no fun. Im sure its not fun to watch, either. Were not going to panic either way. Were going to come in and try to be loose." NOTES: Cahill had not allowed three homers since Oaklands 10-2 loss at Toronto on April 30, 2010. ... Maholm beat the Diamondbacks in his second straight start after going 0-3 in his first six career starts against them. ... The Braves improved to 9-1-4 in home series. ... Diamondbacks RHP Tony Hill pitched a scoreless seventh and has not allowed a run in 11 straight road appearances. ... Atlanta is 34-6 when outhitting opponents. ... RHP David Carpenter pitched the last two innings for the Braves. ... Freeman homered in consecutive games for the second time this season and first since May 30-31 against Toronto and Washington. ... • LIVERPOOL, England - Everton defender Phil Jagielka fired in a stoppage-time equalizer to clinch a 1-1 draw in the 223rd Merseyside derby on Saturday and extend Liverpools winless run to three Premier League matches. Christian Yelich Jersey . Jagielka unleashed a half-volley from outside the penalty area just when it appeared captain Steven Gerrard had secured Liverpools win with his ninth derby league goal. Gerrard curled a free kick into the net in the 65th minute at Anfield, with goalkeeper Tim Howard getting a touch to the ball but unable to keep it out. It was three points we deserved, Gerrard said. Over the 90 minutes with the chances we created we are disappointed not to get three points. But it was at least a point for a Liverpool side that had lost its previous two league games. While Liverpool has won two of its opening six games, Everton has recorded just one victory in the league. We were clearly the dominant side in the game, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said. Everton are very fortunate to come away from here with a point. The game started at a frenetic pace and referee Martin Atkinson might have given two penalties and a red card in the opening 10 minutes. Everton appealed for a spot kick when Alberto Moreno appeared to bring down striker Romelu Lukaku but Atkinson waved it off, as he did four minutes later when Raheem Sterlings shot struck the arm of Everton midfielder Gareth Barry. Liverpool was attacking with verve and lots of pace, keen to get on top of Evertons leaky defence early on. Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli drew Howard into a first save with a deflected free kick, and from the corner the U.S. goalkeeper reacted brilliantly to keep out Adam Lallanas header. Lallana looked particularly bright, and the space down the flanks created by Evertons narrow midfield was giving full backs Moreno and Javier Manquillo plenty of space to attack into. Applying the finishing touch was the problem, though, and Balotelli lacked the necessary conviction on a number of occasions as he sought his first Premier League goal for Liverpool. Evertons attacks were ponderous in comparison, although Baines did get away down the left and rolled the ball across goal, where it was scrambled clear by Dejan Lovren. The visitors were dealt a blow on the half-hour mark when Kevin Mirallas appeared to pull a hamstring in full flight and was carried off to be replaced by Aiden McGeady. The good news for Everton was that its defence a€” the leagues worst a€” was holding up well and, when Liverpool did get through, Howard was on form, keeping out shots from Jordan Henderson and Sterling as the half drew to a close. Liverpool was straight on the attack after the break and James McCarthy did well to foil Lazar Markovic. Markovic was taken off to be replaced by Philippe Coutinho, and five minutes later Liverpool finally made the breakthrough. Baines was judged to have brought down Balotelli 22 yards (meters) out and Gerrard found the net from the dead-ball. It was nice to remind people that, although I am 34, I can still run and still play, Gerrard said. It should have been two as Sterling got away down the left before crossing for Balotelli, who hit the top of the bar from six yards (meters). Everton piled on the pressure without really looking like finding a leveler until Jagielkas dramatic intervention. The swinging worked, Jagielka said. A point is decent but we would have loved three. Going into the last few minutes 1-0 down to get a point is fantastic. Barry could even have won it with a late back-heel, but Everton remains without a win at Anfield in 15 years. Trey Supak Jersey . For the Miami Heat, that was outstanding news. LeBron James scored the last of his 32 points on a layup that put Miami up for good with 11. According to a police report, Douglas is accused of grabbing his girlfriend by the neck and slamming her against the wall several times while he carried her from the elevator to their Hartford hotel room early Sunday morning.CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Unable to get much lift off his sore right ankle, Bobcats centre Al Jefferson figured it was time to make an adjustment. So Jefferson made a conscious decision to try a new technique Tuesday night, jumping off both feet instead of just his right. He never expected the results he got. Jefferson scored a season-high 35 points, Kemba Walker had 12 of his 25 in the fourth quarter and Charlotte snapped the New York Knicks five-game winning streak with a 108-98 victory. "It worked for me tonight -- on my jump shot, on my jump hook. I just decided to try to do something different to get some lift," said Jefferson, who acknowledged for the first time hell likely need surgery on the ankle after the season. It was Jeffersons best game since joining the Bobcats as a free agent this past off-season and more of what he envisioned when he signed a three-year, $41 million contract. When he wasnt dominating in the low post, he was kicking the ball out to the wing and the Bobcats were knocking down shots, hitting 6 of 14 on 3-point attempts. It came at a great time. Coach Steve Clifford said he didnt want any doubt to slip into his players minds after theyd lost three straight and eight of their last 10 games. "Thats a professional win," Clifford said. "Thats a win you can get on a plane and feel good about." Walker was 4 of 4 from the field in the fourth quarter, including 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions. He also finished with seven rebounds and five assists. The Bobcats benefited from the return of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who had eight points and seven rebounds after sitting out the last 19 games with a broken left hand. He also brought some needed energy on the defensive end. "You can see value of having a guy like Kidd-Gilchrist," Clifford said. "People dont always understand the energy and intensity and those kinds of things. Those are skills." Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks (15-23) with 20 points and six rebounds. Tyson Chandler returned to the lineup after missing four games with bronchitis, but wasnt much of a factor. Chandler made both shots from the field and finished with five points and four rebounds in 16 1/2 minutes. "I felt decent out there," Chandler said. "I was a little winded the first half but after that I kind of got my lungs together."t; J. Tyler Saladino Brewers Jersey. R. Smith was benched for the second time in four games. With Chandler limited, the Knicks had a tough time shutting down Jefferson. "We havent been hitting the bigs," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said. "Were letting our bigs play guys one-on-one and (Jefferson) got going and by the time we started to double team, he had already felt good about his game and that didnt even help either." The Bobcats led throughout the second half, but the Knicks cut the lead to four with less than 11 minutes remaining. Thats when Walker began to take over. After a timeout, Walker scored a layup on a nice one-handed feed from Jefferson, who had drawn double coverage. Walker then knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, including a 29-footer from the top of the key to beat the shot clock. Jefferson added an inside jumper to push the lead the 13 and the Knicks never challenged again. Jefferson finished 14 of 20 from the field and had eight rebounds. "You could tell from the first time he touched the ball he was on the attack," Clifford said. After giving up 23 second-chance points in a loss to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, the Bobcats limited the Knicks to just four Tuesday night and led 55-46 at the break. Jefferson had a huge first half, scoring 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting as the Bobcats outscored the Knicks 22-14 in the paint. Kidd-Gilchrist, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 draft, returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Dec. 3. He missed a few layups, but provided a needed presence on defence. The Bobcats were 7-12 without Kidd-Gilchrist in the lineup. The Knicks clearly looked fatigued on the second night of a back-to-back. "Im not using that as an excuse but we were a step slow defensively in terms of our rotations," Woodson said. "We scored enough points. 98 points is more than enough points. This team averages 93 points and we gave up 108 points so our defence was non-existent. You just cant do that, especially on the road." NOTES: Mike Tolbert and DeAngelo Williams of the NFLs Carolina Panthers were in the crowd. ... Amare Stoudemire had an embarrassing turnover when he threw a pass to no one in particular and knocked over a womans drink in the front row. ... In the fourth quarter, a portion of Knicks fans on hand for the game began chanting Smiths name, but to no avail. ' ' '
